[SOLVED] External SSD not detected by xbox one or laptop

hi everyone,
I have had an external SSD for my one x since it came out. This is in a sabrent enclosure. I had moved the drive to my old xbox one to copy some installed games. My son yesterday moved the drive back to the one x. He did not power down the xbox one first.
Now the drive does not get detected by either xbox and my pc can see it in disc management but it has no volume associated with it (It says no media).
I have tried all I can think of to this working and I am curious if anyone has any issues. I can reinstal everything on the drive but I would love to get it working.
I cannot tell what brand drive it is based on the drive itself and I cannot find the order for it.
thank you in advance.

Solution
I figured it out!
I went back to basics and checked all connections, etc. The drive was slightly loose in the external kit so it was not communicating fully. mark this fixed!
thank you for helping me trouble shoot this.

Plug the drive (for example in an external HDD case) to the computer. Run Start > Computer management tool > Storage and check if it's visible in it. If yes then right click on it and use the "add letter" option. Windows will convert it to its format, adding a letter to the drive, therefore it should be visible in the system.

Maybe this will help.

thank you.
When I do this, it lists the drive as disk 2 and says "no media."
I can assign it a letter, it is viewable in windows but clicking on it makes it behave like an empty cd drive - "please insert a disc"

Try right click on the drive and pick "Format" option

I'd try the Change letter path in the Computer management tool (storage) or in the Windows Explorer right click and check there if the Format option is available after right clicking on the drive

any windows type operation is not possible as it keeps telling me windows does not have access to the disk or to insert a disk
