Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

You aren't talking to the manufacturer, Fritz - just a lot of oordinary computer users like yourself. Hard disks don't need special software unless they offer a backup facility.

Can you access your data when you plug the unit into a USB port? Why do you think you need to install software?
