Extreme Overclocking KT7 RAID?

I read Tom's article on the extreme overclocking of the A7V and was very interested. I am about to upgrade, and intend to buy the KT7 RAID. I was wondering if anyone knows of similar tricks to increase the core voltage range on the Abit.

Check out www.amdzone.com there is a piece there on how to bump up the voltage on the RAID KT7. I did the mod (and played with the resister values) and got almost 2 volts sizzling into my T-Bird 700. Best I could do was a tick over 1 gig. Heat was a major issue so I clocked it back down to 900 and its great there. have fun and be careful!

I also found that article interesting and am considering an upgrade or should I say a rebuild-- but I was a little confused on which motherboard to use, the Abit KT7 or the Asus A7V. I want to use an AMD/Athlon 700 and overclock it. So what do you recomend? Which board is easier to work with? And which board will be or could be upgradeable in the future. I was told that the KT7 was the better choice cause there may be a posibility for a software bios upgrade which may open doors for future cpu's. And as for the AMD 700-- is it true that all I need is to find one with the L1 bridges closed or close them myself?

thanks Heber

I don't know that either is the better board. I chose the Abit because everything is controlled in the BIOS. The Asus has jumpers, but there might be a jumper-free mode, I don't know. Also, there's a wealth of information on the KT7 at http://go.to/kt7faq.

When I first got the board, for some reason, every time my computer accessed my hard drive on the standard IDE connector or the RAID controller, it was really slow and my mouse movement was jerky, etc. After spending several days changing from WinME to Win98SE...reinstalling, changing cables, hard drives, loading various drivers..., the problem went away! And I don't know what I did to fix it. I guess I was pretty burnt out by that time.

So far it seems that you can change the bridges on all the Durons and Thunderbirds. This site and many others have articles on how to make the change.

I have to admit that the KT7 RAID is very impressive. I have heard that the A7V is great as well. The nice thing about the KT7 is the extensive softbios. Everything can be adjusted in the bios. It also has better cooling features than the A7V, the ATA100 RAID option, and an ISA slot.
