Extreme overclocking question

I was wondering how extreme overclockers change ths bus speed to dramatically without hurting any other components on the motherboard for instance the record overclock on the AMD FX-8350 has a bus speed of 283 with a multiplier of 31, why wouldnt someone just overclock the multiplier instead, i cant find anything on the internet about this topic so if someone could make it more clear that would be great.

Your not going for a world record just change the multiplier and voltage.
For hurting the motherboard they could care less their just looking for the clock speed.

I know how to do a normal overclock, i was just curious on how they get the bus speed or bclk so high without causing system failure in like the pci express lanes, sata and or ram

Jay explains about FSB overclocking the FX 8350. I think it will answer your question better than my typing but essentially you just lower those frequencies.
