Question USB sound adapter won't work anymore only on Windows 10

For some reason, my usb sound adapter stopped working on Windows 10. The strange thing is that on both Windows 7 and 11 it keeps working just fine. The sound adapter appears on Device Manager with a yellow
exclamation mark. I've tried updating its drivers but Windows won't let it install. I've even tried restoring an old Windows 10 image but the problem still remains. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for it without success. I've tried checking the ssd for errors and SFC to no avail.

What could be causing this?

My specs:

CPU:FX6300
MB: Asus M5A78L-M LX V2
RAM: 16GB DDR3
GPU: R7 240 2GB
3 HD + 1 SSD
PSU: Gamemax GP 650

You forgot to list the usb sound adapter within your system specs.
There may be some useful usb setting options within your BIOS/UEFI which may help accommodate adapters.

I think it's a generic usb sound adapter, it is listed on Device Manager as:

"USB PnP Sound Device"

I meant, what is the adapter, specifically. Brand name and model.
It may not need a driver.
Have you tried plugging it into a different USB port?
On the other hand, that is a very old motherboard.

I don't know its name and model.
I've tried different USB ports.

I think you're right, it doesnt need drivers, but why has it stopped working only on Windows 10?

There are many different adapters which use that generic nomenclature.
Without knowing more, it's difficult to diagnose.

No, but I have Windows 7, 10 and 11 on this same pc, which proves it's not the adapter itself.
It works on Win7 and 11, but not on Win10. The issue started happening today on Win10 only.

Go ahead and install a GNU/linux OS too. Maybe it'll work with it.

Windows updated yesterday ?
If so uninstall the recent update from control panel, programs and features
Make sure the device reboots after uninstall
Try that and you can reupdate windows again that if it is not the problem

No, I paused updates on Windows 10 a long time ago. But I'll take a look at it to make sure.

The latest update on Win10 was in 2023.

Ok, I've found the fix for this, I had disabled all the non-Microsoft services and this somehow caused a conflict/malfunction with my usb adapter. Once i restored all of those services, the adapter worked again.
