_This is my work PC_
CPU - P4 Northwood 2.4 Mhz with 512 cache - non-overclocked!
MB - IBM i845

The problem is that I noticed tht my PC is periodicaly restarting and this has got worse - stoped entering windows at al - not even in safe mode -it restarts.
This is not constant behaviour. Right now is working, with extracooling but with extremely high core voltage: Hmonitor detects 2.59 V and CPU-Z - 3.6 V! :!:
Note: I cannot acces voltage from bios.
I am thinking of volt moding it as last resort as I am not in the mood for replacing the board!

Any Ideas?

Could be the old "Northwood syndrome" - semiconductors breakdown over time. (usually main cause OC - Vcore over 1.7V)

Prescotts don't suffer this problem, only heat issues :D

It's wrong, I got the with my bros Gateway pc with Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz. With the CPU-Z is says the vcore is 3.7volts and there's is not other way I could detect the vcore excpept the cpu-z which is wrong.

I know that for a fact that a 3.7volts in 820 would instantly fry it. But I'm guessing the vcore is between 1.25-1.4v.

:)

Thanks guys - to all of you
I have got a lot of useful advices in this forum.

Reading some topics I went for a upgrade -
my non overclockable strange working IBM i845 --> Gigabyte i915
my Northwood CPU 512 cache, 2.4 Mhz --> D805 2x1Mb cache.
I am geting a motherboard with dual suport:
AGI (I know it sucks but it let me use my 6600 AGP) & PCI expres
DDR1 & DDR2 (I will keep using my DDR)
This way I can upgrade slowly to CONROE.
And the upgrade is costing me ~ 100 $ - they said they wil get my Gigabyte MB later for a good price so I can upgrade to a i865-i875 or watever will be best choice in the future.

Thanks again.
