Extremely Inconsistent Ping

So my friend and I started having extremely inconsistent ping while playing League of Legends and CSGO. We receive roughly 50 mpbs down and the ping is usually fairly good, but playing where it goes from 50 ping to 300 ping in an ms or 2 is highly unplayable at even a moderate level. This happens on both wired and wireless internet connections, should I just contact the isp?

hmm ping spikes are to be expected on a busy network for example when someone starts downloading a video, do you know how many people are on your network when you play?

When I did the test I believe I was the only one on the network so it always happens whether there are 0 or 10 other people on the network.

yeah then its a question for your internet provider to solve

You need to ping your router IP and the first ISP router in the tracert that will respond..hopefully hop 2. Your goal is to show the ISP that you have no issues to your router but you have issues on the connection between your house and the ISP. There is little you can do if the problem is somewhere far from your house maybe in the game companies ISP.
