I can not screw in the X plate of my 212 Evo because of the fan that is in the way on ONE side. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around this? I am using AM3+

Here are some pictures

Thanks so much whoever reads or takes time into helping me. I've hurt my back trying to have a solution around this...

actually, I think that you have the heatsink and fan facing the wrong way...

i am guessing that the fan that is in the bottom of the picture is the rear case fan?

if so, then your 212 is positioned incorrectly. The 212's fan should push air thourgh the 212's heatsink and out towards the rear case fan. That does not look how you have your's setup.

OK SO, I have installed the 212 Evo (as I had to remove the fan and place it back on) but, the fan is positioned facing up towards the top of my case(as I saw in a tutorial video and I followed the guide), but I couldn't really install it another direction(besides the opposite way to the bottom of my case, not the top) because of my mobo (Asrock 970 extreme 3) ... unless im doing something wrong? but im getting good temps on my CPU, fx 6300, like 14-15c idle.

You are doing it wrong. The Hyper 212 actually allows the heatsink/fan to be installed horizontally or vertically. It should be installed vertically. The fan should be pointing towards the front of the case. This way it "pushes" air over the heatsink. The rear case fan is right behind the heatsink to exhaust this hot air. Just Google up some tower heatsink images and you will see the proper orientation of the hsf.

the fan should not blow out to the front of the case..What bmacys meant to state was the 212's heatsink fan should closest to the front ofthe case pushing air THROUGH the heatsink and out the back of the case through the rear case fan.

Front to back is the proper airflow.

The top case fan (if installed is for exhaust also).

The bottom case fans are for intake.

Side fans are usually intake.

Front fans are intake fans.

if you can't get the 212 to fit right with the fan, then you can have the fan blow out the top of the case....but make sure that the fan is on the bottom of the heatsink so that it blows air through the heatsink and out the top of the case.

To the two of you:

1. It's okay anyway my PC is running fine and cool, good temps
2. I have tried to install it the ways you were saying before I posted this thread but no luck because of my
motherboard and its backplate screw positions(unless im doing something wrong)
3. it doesnt really matter...
really?
4. Thanks!

check my previous post :)

actually what bmacys "stated" is exactly what you repeated. "the fan should be pointing toward the front of the case. This way it pushes air over the heatsink and out the rear exhaust fan" this is in fact correct. as is the way starbeetle already has it installed with the fan looking down at the PSU which would push air through the heatsink and out the TOP exhaust fan assuming he has one there.

Wrong...the fan should not "point toward the front of the case." That is very, very bad way of describing the setup; Very bad!!, Pointing insinuates airflow direction, and not how he used it.

The easiest is to state is that the airflow should move From the front of the case moving towards the back to create a sort of wind tunnel. Then the air should move from the bottom of the case upwards.

"Point" refers to the direction of the airflow, and not the placement location of the fan itself.

Maybe this confuses "you" but everyone else understands what he said as the fan being mounted on the "FRONT" of the heatsink and in doing so there is no way for the airflow to be wrong considering its a one way mounted fan... if its on the front of the heatsink it blows air out the rear. period. Hence the fan POINTING to the front of the case.

Not mine, just a pic I found.
And "POINTING to the front" is semantics....and apparently not crystal clear to everyone. As we have seen.

"Blowing towards the back" would be a better description.
