Eyefinity: Will this DisplayPort adapter work?

Found this in a link on another forum while searching for active DisplayPort to DVI adapters for triple monitor Eyefinity.

It doesn't physically resemble any other active adapter I've seen and it's also $80 cheaper than any I've seen. (Very suspicous, huh?)

Was wondering if anyone knew anything about it...

Thats an adapter, but not an active one. Easy to tell, since there is no power source. Active converters are actually reprocessing the DisplayPort signal into a different signal, as opposed to taking a mostly compatible signal (like and HDMI and DVI....DP is different) and allowing things to be physically connected. An active adapter actually converts, and requires some juice to do it, usually via USB. That thing would work fine to connect the video card to a DVI monitor using the DP port, but it will not work for Eyefinity.

ok but heres another question - the displayport to vga adapter is a passive one.I have read that vga moniters do not need to have a active adapter. the only downside to this is screen resolution limitations. seeing as i dont use dvi screens i think from what i have read these work for vga eyefinity set ups
 
I wound up purchasing the active DisplayPort to DVI adapter from Dell.

It works, however, after playing a game that supports triple monitor Eyefinity for an extended period of time, the monitor using the adapter will shut off during gameplay. From what I can tell, the adapter gets hot and shuts off until it cools back down. It's not the monitor because I swapped the monitor over to a DVI cable and it worked and swapped the adapter to a working monitor and it stopped working. So it's definitely the adapter. It only does this during extended periods of triple monitor gameplay. I can have all three monitors up for hours at a time surfing the web, typing a report, etc. and it never skips a beat.

Works very well until....well, it stops working. lol Kind of disappointing after paying $100 for the adapter. I'm pleased with the 5870 performance-wise, but I really wish it had three DVI ports rather than just two, 'cause I wouldn't have any trouble whatsoever.

I will likely get a new card this year sometime and sell the 5870 because of this issue.

Ok i got my adapter today and the best resolution i can get with a passive dp-vga adapter is 3840 x 1024 ya it will work in eyefinity but the end result wont be great. I will be testing the one off amazon next the active dp-vga one oh yeah and for those of you that dont know this eyefinity and crossfire does not work
 
I'm using the Accell B101C-001B and it works. It is in fact an active adapter. setup is on 5760 x 1080. It is AMD eyefinity validated. It is also in stock at amazon for under $25. If yours doesn't work, issue a replacement and they'll ship another one out to you overnight, as they did with mine. Have fun!
 
I'm using the Accell B101C-001B and it's not working so well.

I'm running Win7 64bit, VisionTek 5750, 3 monitors (@1280x1024 ), Catalyst suite 10.3, I am not using eyefinity.

The problem I'm having is that when I reboot my computer, win7 starts, but all three monitors are blank. Windows is starting ok, i just can't 'see' the login dialog box. If I disconnect the Accell B101C-001B displayport, then login, then reconnect the Accell B101C-001B, I can use all three displays again. - very annoying.

I also tried another Accell B101C-001B and it's doing the same thing. bah!

Based on this: http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx The Accell B101C-001B is NOT Validated for eyefinity.

If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix this annoying problem, I'd appreciate it.

to my understanding passive adapters will work for single link but dual link requires active adapters. I will find out soon! I have 2 dell e207wfp and I found a refurb one (should have it in a few days) I also ordered a passive adapter from newegg. I have a 5770 so hopefully it will work!
 
Call the ATI card manufacturer for the DVI to HDMI adaptor. They will send it to you for free.

I have 2 4890 from Diamondmm.... I have a total of 4 DVI to HDMI adapter courtesy of Diamondmm.

I have GTX 280 OC... BFG sent me DVI to HDMI adaptor, HDMI cable, and SPDIF cable...

These connectors are provided by the Video Card Manufacturer. Its part of what you paid for. Pick up the phone and give them a call. In 3 to 5 days these connectors will be at your mail/box or doorstep.



The adapter you are asking about is passive. Active HDMI cables with repeaters for extended lenght are >$150.
 
Sapphire makes an active displayport. It is sold out most places. I ordered it from provantage for $115. I figure it should work without any problems since it is Sapphire. It is on back order. Hopefully I'll get it soon. I'll post my findings.
 
Active HDMI cable is not recommended/needed until your cable is <50ft. One of my setup runs on a HDMI 1.3 @ 25ft with no issues on games/movie.

As on my previous post... Ask your the video card manufacturer for cables, connectors, adapter. For the price that you paid these things are included.
 
Ok so I got my 3rd monitor in. I now have 3 Dell e207wfp 20.1". All are dvi. I know I can only use two legacy ports (ati 5770), but I wanted to see what the system would do. I have 2 plugged into dvi and one into hdmi (via adapter). Windows 7 and CCC detects all three, but will only output to two displays. You can switch displays in CCC without having to unplug anything (is this useful?). I do have a passive displayport to dvi coming in a day or two. I will see if itll work or not. If it doesnt.... well Ill have an extra monitor until I have the budget to get an active adapter *DOH*.
 



I have a question i need a mini displayport adapter to HDMI . All of the ATi apporvedf ones are passive there are no acrtive ones . dows thios meen they will work to give me that third eyefinity screen ? I have a 5790 card
 


I bought the DP>VGA adapter. It says "works with Eyefinity right on the package. I have one display on DVI-DVI, a second on HDMI>DVI, and then the DP>VGA but, I can still only drive two displays at a time. All three are recognized but only two can be active. I have CCC version 10.1 and card driver 8.7 on a 2GB 5570. What am I missing?
 
Make sure the resolutions/settings are the same, most people find they need to do that first, and boot from VGA first in order to enable eyefinity via the analogue loophole.

Also, start a new thread people, stop adding to specific older ones! :non:
 
Thanks for the post. I have all three displays set to 1280x1024 and the VGA adapter is connected to display 1. Not sure what you mean by boot from the VGA?
