I had an external WD Hard Disk WD1600BEVS-22RST0 160GB since 2-3 years.. Recently it got detached from the connectivity cable(while running) and fell upon the floor.. When I picked it up and tried to run it to check if it was ok or not, the drive did power up as the blue light at the corner got lit.. But none of My computers recognized the drive.. In Device Manager > Disk Drives, it shows WD but in Library it doesn't show the drive mounted.. What should I do? I even took out the drive from its shell to check for burns.. But there weren't any burns.. What should I do to make it run again?
Please help.

EDIT: When I click on Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media it shows Eject 'External HDD'.
The name of my Hard Disk was "External HDD" which I renamed almost an year ago..

first is it still on warranty?

if not then I'm suggesting to remove the external case and check the internal connection/cable.
try mount/install the hdd to the desktop computer and see if it still detected..

a shock when running/on is quite disaster for hdd...

edit: some warranty void when opening/disassemble the external case, so check before doing it

don't get your info before..

so it still detected in drive manager,is it still detected on disk management ?

if it detected but cannot accessed. mostly the partition table and sort is damaged..
there some 3rd parties apps that may help...

Yes it is detected on Drive Manager under Disk Drives as WD and when I open Disk Management it pops up a window saying Initialize Disk.. When I click on MBR and click Ok it says 'Incorrect Function'.. What should I exactly do after I remove it from external case? Nope it is not on warranty anymore..

Hey there, deadlyghost!

I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles with the WD external.
Unfortunately, by dropping it on the floor you might have caused internal physical damage on the hard drive. This means that you might be dealing with a damaged component inside the hard drive and this is something you cannot fix yourself and I'm not sure if you will be able to make it run again. I wanted to ask though did you buy it as an external drive or did you manually put it in an enclosure?

I'd strongly recommend turning to a professional for help with the damage or start looking for a new external. 🙁

There a 3rd parties apps can help with this problem HDD recovery..
it may able to save some data..

unfortunately I'm not to0 familiar with the apps, so i will let other that more experience..

one thing though.. after u can salvage the data.. most likely u must change the hdd...

since shock when HDD is running/operating usually have impact physically
(scratch on the plate, head damage, etc), it will not last longer

No luck.. Those 3rd party applications also wont even detect my HDD..
