Just so you guys know. I am an absolute noob when it comes to pc terms. I can work my way around but PLEASE don't use any difficult terms. Treat me like a 10 year old if possible. :(

Alright so, the situation. AMD asked me if I wanted to update my driver. I did, it asked me to restart my pc. I did, but now, every time on startup, I INSTANTLY get a bsod with atikmdag.sys.
Now I'm in Safe Mode, trying this: "http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=363233"
However, I can't load a detection driver.

I am completely stuck now as I can't install or uninstall any drivers because of this error.

I require assistance please. :(

PS: I have been able to turn on the ability to remove programs in safe mode (using regedit).

well this is your first lesson on using auto updating ... restart in safe mode got to control panel - add and remove programs - AMD catalyst install manager - click on it for uninstall -- all amd -- reboot and it all should be on Microsoft standard vga driver [the default vga driver built in to windows ]

then go to AMD and use the manually select drivers- use the drop boxes to input you info and it will link you to your driver - download it to a folder on your desktop and install it from there [wile downloading it don't hurt to pull up the drivers release notes and review them ]

I don't have AMD catalyst install manager anymore as in a guide I tried told me to remove it.
I've tried alot of solutions before this.

Also like I said, I can't install or deinstall anything of AMD due to it bringing me to the uninstaller and then telling me that it failed to load detection driver.

I don't have any AMD files. Nowhere in my computer because I uninstalled it (like I have told before).

ok . well good luck all I can do is take a guess at what you may have going on and what left over files and like you said to me ''like I have told before''

i'll tell you like before ''well this is your first lesson on using auto updating ''

this is trouble shooting not wave a magic wand or use a crystal ball -- not a come back on the help offered

Look, I'm 100% sure that you know WAY better then me what's going on here. And I'm absolutely not trying to be rude or anything. But it's just that you tell me to go to files that I don't have and I have no idea what I'm supposed do with that. :s

first thing why not give system spec's so i or whoever can see what we are working with ...--- and how did the system restore work ?? i do know with amd,if there cim gets screwed up this occurs . a lot hangs on it and if removed incorrectly deleated or corrupted this type of issue can occur - so can we make a file and get it back in properly ?? like use the cards driver disk and just find and install it alone and see if it will run the uninstaller or copy and paste the cim file from the disk and try to run it -- i do feel this is what got screwed up in some way [catalyst install manager]

also check in - control panel- device manager under display adaptor - property's- driver and see whats listed -- should be Microsoft standard vga... [not in safe mode] if no display out side of safe mode i'll take another path

if the amd drivers were all properly removed

Well like I said I'm a complete noob when it comes to PC Terms. I also don't know what System restore is as my PC is dutch and I don't really know the translation. I'm also not really understanding what you ask me to do. :??: It's really confusing for me. Can you please tell me step by step?

These are the specs I have btw:
Processor AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 645 Processor
Manufacturer AMD
Speed 3.3 GHz
Number of Cores 4
Video Card Standaard-VGA grafische adapter
Manufacturer ATI
Chipset Standaard-VGA grafische adapter
Dedicated Memory 2.1 GB
Total Memory 2.1 GB
Memory 8.2 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Service Pack 1
Size 64 Bit
Edition Home Premium
Display Maximum Resolution 1280 x 1024

Drive 1
Size 781.2 GB
Free 101.1 GB
Drive 2
Size 150.2 GB
Free 25.2 GB

lets start with did you try the system restore ?? to a restore point well behind if this issue [like one from last week or any point when things were fine ] ?? I still don't know what card your running or motherboard ??

also if your board has onboard graphics do you need to change the bios setting from onboard to pcie graphics card use ?? maybe the onboard graphics is interfering with the card ???

Can you tell me how to do a system restore because I don't know how :/ (probably because I don't know the correct translation)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Motherbord: Asrock 890FX Deluxe3

EDIT: This is strange, my PC tells me that the AMD radeon HD 6800 is my graphics card, but that's my old one. My new one (that has been installed for over a year) is MSI ATI Radeon R7 260x 2 GB DDRS ARMOR FA.

ok, ya - but one thing that's now got me fooled is this part of what you sent --- ''Chipset Standaard-VGA grafische adapter'' why does a 890fx board list that when it don't have any onboard graphics ?? hmmmm...

system restore -- control panel-- back up and restore --- recover system settings or your computer -- open system restore -- follow prompts - and hope you got good restore points listed

Well I put the VGA back as the default driver as my plan was to uninstall to then reinstall it(which I never was able to do). I'm assuming that's why.

I'll try and do the system restore thing now.

wow.. its looking like a bigger mess now ... shows onboard vga and then your new 260 as your old 6800 card ?? so now I assume when you install the driver it don't know what to do and fails ...

with out being there for a hands on and to see things in person I don't know witch way to go after all that ..

if system restore don't overcome the issue you maybe down to needing to do a fresh install of windows to start back fresh ??? and turn off all that auto updating stuff ??

if nothing else try to reinstall the chipset drivers for your board from the asrock site and see if they may of been corrupted as well ??

something in that auto detect of the updater goofed up bad it seems

Well, I had some strange results that I didn't really expect.
First it did the system restore, then restarted the PC. I had a BSOD with ACPI.sys (never had this specific one before). Then I manually restarted my PC again, and then I was surprisingly able to use normal mode (i'm on it right now). However the system restore was apparently not succesful.

This is the result (in dutch). If there is any translation problems feel free to ask.

PS: I know it's not a screenshot, it wouldn't work for some reason, so this is just straight from my phone.

EDIT: After taking a look at my specs again. I noticed that now it doesn't show my old OR my new one. It just shows the "Standard VGA graphics adapter" (adapter may be translated wrong)

It's dutch btw.

But I don't know. The restore failed, but I'm now able to go on Normal Mode. Which is a great help. But the original plan was (since I play games) to play LoL. So I'll see if i'm able to play a game (i'll just do a custom game, that I can leave at any time so it'll only take 5 mins to check). And report back to you.

So, a game didn't work. This is the error: An unknown DirectX error has occurred and League of Legends cannot start.
Please make sure your video card is using the latet video drivers from the manufacturer.

The thing is though, my PC doesn't recognize my graphics card anymore (it's using the VGA) so I don't think getting the AMD driver will even work since my PC doesn't know I have a AMD graphics card.

Is there a way to seperately fix the DirectX error? Or to make my PC notice the R7 260 card.

now I do see where that game gets a lot of issue threads or it comes up a lot in threads ????? so it maybe the game ?????

I was looking around on that card thing and found nothing -- is this using GPU-Z ??

you can try to install direct x runtime from Microsoft ? I got it installed for older games and it may bolster some files that 7 may not have

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

what about installing your old 6800 card and see what it will do it may install the drivers from amd and work fine if so then do a proper uninstall of the driver to see if it cleans things up and reinstall the 270 ???

I never had a card detect wrong like that

Upon trying to install DirectX, it told me that I have the exact same program installed already. And that it was correct.

Also, I'm pretty sure it's not the game itself as I'm not able to play ANY games that I have. I've tested several so far, all telling me that I should check my Graphics Drivers. :/

I'm also not able to try the other card as I am a complete noob on computers and I don't trust myself with opening my pc and replacing parts.

Right now i'm just scanning my pc with Microsoft Security Essentials. After that's done i'll try that driver.

its not hard -- you shut down turn off the psu then you hit the start button and hold it in for like 5 sec. to discharge the board then you unhook the monitor open the case and there should be a screw or 2 holding the card to the case get them out then remove the psu pci-e power plug from the card [if it requires one or 2 ] then at the end of the slot the card is in theres a latch you press down and carefully pull out the card

install in reverse order minus the discharging of the board ...

anyway now you say it normal can you now install the driver ?? I'd try the 13.12 I went with the 14.xx ones and just came back to the old 13.12 due to funny things with them but I also run a 7850

also then you can see that there is a 260x in it and not your old 6800 as in someone did not pull a fast one on you
