I keep getting a problem at startup that says something like 'disk read error press ctrl alt del to resart' from my understanding this is most likely a drive failing. However it's quite temperamental and sometimes starts without a hitch. Can you give me you thoughts on this to confirm or deny if it is failing.
Also I have tried using the windows error checking tool before on a boot drive but I don't think it has ever told me if the drive works ok or not just gives my some values on screen unless I have missed something can someone tell me how this works.

Thanks for any help it will be greatly appreciated.

Hey there again, virtualwellz!

Have you tried running any of the utilities from the link in my previous post? Chkdsk doesn't work with solid-state drives, only with mechanical ones. I'd recommend you to backup your data somewhere else before proceeding with the troubleshooting.
You can also try reinstalling Windows and see if that will help you resolve the issue. If it doesn't, then it's post certainly a hardware problem and we'd need to find that component.

Keep me posted.

In an elevated command prompt (cmd as administrator)you can try:
SFC /scannow: Scans system files
chkdsk /f : Check for errors on drive and tries to fix them

You can also install ChrystalDiskInfo and have a look at your drive's general health. Keep us updated!

Hey there, virtualwellz!

Can you please share more details about your system? Unfortunately, the Check Disk command in Windows does nothing really for solid-state drives. The best thing you can do is try using an SSD-specific diagnostic tool to check up on the SMART data and the overall health of the drive.
However, if you are unable to boot, you'd need to do that from another computer. Here are some good third-party SSD testing tools you can use: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1926483/ssd-diagnostic-tools.html
I'd also use the SSD brand-specific utility that might help you monitor if there is an outdated firmware or something else that's wrong.

Thanks for the replies. All I need to do is verify if the drive is failing and not something else on my system so I can replace it before I need it for university. I will try the methods suggested and see where it gets me.
Also Supersoph_wd what details do you need? System hardware?

It appears that its not a problem with my SSD. However I still cannot boot windows on occasion and my system is doing some very weird things. Yesterday windows explorer crashed and made my taskbar dissapear so I had to power down my system with the actual button.
