Short version: I get the 0cx0000185 system error on startup and suspect that my SSD C: drive may be failing. Is there some way to test this before replacing the dive?
More details:
My HP Desktop running Windows 10 has a factory installed Samsung SSD (MZ7PC256HAFU-000H1). The three year old PC works normally except that it occasionally hangs on boot-up with a 0cx0000185 error. The hanging occurs only about one in ten times when the PC is turned on. An immediate cold reboot restores operation. Working with HP Tech Support, a memory checker and several other diagnostic programs were run (and re-run) and the BIOS updated. Two of PC's 5 fans including the water-cooled CPU fan were replaced because of a suspected over-heating issue. None of this seems to have helped with the 0cx0000185 issue. This error first occurred sometime after installing Windows 10 over a year ago.
The Speccy (System information tool) gives my SSD Power On Count: 4132 times and Power On Time: 452 days. (~11 k hours) Samsung rates the MTBF for this SSD as 1,500,000 hours; so my unit would appear to be quite young.
Has anyone seen this problem or know how to test an SSD for the sort of intermittent failure that might be causing the 0cx0000185 error? All comments and suggestions most welcome.
Jim
