Hey gang,

I finally won an Ebay auction on Falcon 4 with original 3 ring binder.
From everything I have heard and read , this is a must have for my flight
sim collection.
I imagine I will receive it sometime next week.

Any help, in guiding me to the updates I need to get for it, and the order
to install them, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I'll start with your quote. I am staying out of the way of everyone
that wants to master F4. I was in on the ground floor of this sim in
extolling its virtues as the mother of all sims. I also have it and
there was a point where you could have picked it up for $10. I paid a
little more.
I still have it on my hd but stopped upgrading it a long time ago. This
is a sim that one could make a full time career playing and goes
further than virtual reality into surreal. The manual is mainly
obsolete after all the upgrades and patches. You firstly need to learn
it then forget it because so much is changed. If you are looking to
play a flight sim after a day of work, forget it. It is a great classic
collectable and some are fanatics that play it but goes way too far on
the learning curve.
If you have nothing better to do with your life then you can do a
search and find the F4 sites that will tell you everything you ever
wanted to know about this sim including all the patches and variants of
the patches. I, for one, stopped following this sim a long time ago-
much more complicated than I ever wanted to get in to. Fighters
Anthology is enough action for me and satisfys my need for fl sim fun.

Don -

The easiest and graphicly best install right now is FreeFalcon 3 with
the new CobraOne patch applied to it.

The install order is -

Falcon4 FULL CD install
FreeFalcon 3 install
FF3 2in1 update patch
CobraOne patch

You may want to run FF3 BEFORE installing the Cobra patch to be sure
all is ok before patching it.

If you need help feel free to email me, would be glad to help you out
using TeamSpeak, Ventrillo, ICQ, or whatever...

crazy as it sounds, read up on anything from the U.S. Military you can find
on the F-16 and ACM... The damn cockpit, avionics, etc are so real, they
all apply. It's spooky.

It's also the most fun you'll ever have with your pants on.

This will at least help you with some of the extraordinary realistic
systems of Falcon 4.

You really need to print them out and study them. It's considered to be
one of the Bibles for Falcon 4

I have a TrackIR 3 Pro and I just added the Aeyes 3D Superpit - it is
remarkable!

The Payware pits don't seem to be 3d - are they worthwhile to use with the
TrackIR?

Yea, but to be candid, the setup I have now is the BEST ever. It is
truly stunning! The FreeFalcon stuff is much easier to install and from
a graphics and gameplay standpoint, truly remarkable! Falcon for me has
never looked this good or been so stable.

Here is my current setup:
1. Install Falcon 4 from CD
2. Install FreeFalcon 3
3. Install FreeFalcon-3-Hotfix-1n2.exe
4. Install FreeFalcon Cockpits
5. Install CobraOnePatch.exe
6. Run Cobra Config Editor (point to CobraOne.exe)
7. Install HiTiles (well worth the $12)
8. Install TrackIR software 4.21
9. Install Freeware Aeyes 3d Superpit
10. Install Bazt 1.1

I have a 3.0 P4 with 1Gb of Ram and an X800 Pro Card. I get 50-70 PFS at
1600x1200x32 with everything on.

No they are not Paul, they are all 2D. I sometimes fly the A10, the
F18, and the F15 and they add fantasticly to the immersion... to be
honest I seldom use the 3D pit and TIR..

I have the Track IR3 Pro as well, do the updates for Falcon 4 support it in

Thanks Gus, have it bookmarked and will be printing them out and studying
them.

it have to be run in a compatibility mode?

Don, Falcon 4 has two cockpit settings, a 2D (standard pit) and a 3D
pit. Using the TIR in enanced you can look around in the 3D pit very
well and if you prefer it to the "padlock" view use it instead for SA.
I'm more of the old school of "if I can see you i'm too close".. LOL.
I do everything in my power to avoid close encounters and use padlock
/boresight to fight (and avoid SAMs) when you have to... and you WILL
have to!!

There is NOTHING like Falcon 4.0 and my guess is there will never be
again...

Don't I need the US 1.08 patch anymore?

AMD XP 2.6Mhz, 512MB Ram, Geforce TI 4200 usually at 1152x854

Is that still good enough to play it?

Yes. Aeyes 3D cockpit is an improvement on the 3D F4 pit, but if your
just starting out its doubtful you will even LOOK at the 3D pit for
some time..
