Fallout 3 windows patch?

I've had a god awful time getting this game to work. I know what the problem is, I just have no idea how to fix it. I tried the d3d9.dll but that didn't work. Anyone who has fallout 3 with windows 7 fixed it?

With both fallout 3 and new vegas I just installed them and they worked fine with Windows 7.
You could try reinstalling it or updating the game / direct X

Wait, by any chance are you using Steam?
