Hi everybody

I have an Asus z170 pro gaming Mobo for 6 months now running with a 6600k on a Corsair spec-03 case.

I had 7 fans running on my pc and last week i decided to buy some new ones,8 of them this time. The fans i bought are the 3-pin Bitfenix spectre pro, 2(140mm) for the front of my case and 6(120mm) for the rest of the case.

My mobo has 5 slots for fans.1)cpu_fan 2)cpu_opt 3)Cha_fan1 4)cha_fan2 and 5)cha_fan3.So i have 5 of my fans connected to these slots and another 3 connected with molex to my psu which is an xfx black edition 650W iirc the exact name. All 5 mobo fan slots support both pwm and dc mode and connecting 3-pin fans since i bought the mobo, i could set the fans speed in relation with CPU temp of all 5 of them using the q-fan control on my mobos bios.

The problem i face now is although i can still do that to every fan slot, the cha_fan1 is running always at full speed and i don't have any control over it.It isn't a problem with the reading of the speed, i can see and hear the fan running at full speed.

I tried 1)Reset bios by loading optimized defaults 2)Updating the bios to the most recent version 3)installed speed fan trying to see if i can limit the fan max speed 4)Tried everything at the bios q-fan section in relation with the fan speed of this fan slot and lastly 5)I connected another fan on this slot to see if the problem was with with the fan itself, but i had the same problem with the new one.No matter what i tried i couldn't lower the fans-connected to this slot-speed, it was always and under any circumstances running at full speed.

Also i am pretty sure that i didn't have this control over speed problem with this slot(or any other)before, i could adjust the speed of the fans connected at will, through bios.I am not sure though if the problem started now that i changed the fans, or maybe it happened before and i haven't noticed it.I think it started now.I fear that i did some damage to my mobo maybe?I almost had to set the whole pc together again from the start, to install 8 new fans.

Thanks in advance

EDIT:I think it is a bios problem.I was messing with the cha1_fan speed settings at the bios and the bios freezed, had to hard reset.I remembered that i had the same problem months ago with the cha3_fan, no control over speed and crashes when messing with the speed settings. It was fixed by updating the bios. What's strange is now i have the same problem with cha1_fan, using the bios that fixed the cha3_fan problem i had in the past, while cha1_fan was working fine with this updated bios as well. The bios update i did now to the latest version(2003) does not fix the problem that i have now with the cha1_fan.

Fan controller certainly isn't a bad option, but i don't need it, i am ok controlling the fans through the Asus bios, as i have been doing since i bought this mobo actually.

It is a problem that i didn't have, at only 1 fan slot and aside from wanting to find what creates this problem,i will be perfectly satisfied if i can gain control of this fan slot again, as it is the one that makes my rig slightly louder than what i want and than what it should be without this problem, that doesn't seem normal.
