Fan controller help!

I was wondering if a fan controller would still be able to work even if the fans its connect to aren't connected to the motherboard. Basically, even if the fans are attached to the Power supply unit (blowing at max right now and pretty loud) would it be able to control and adjust their speeds? All my fans except the cpu one is attached to the PSU so would something like the sentry 3 work with it? (cx 500W is my psu)! Thank you kindly.

Yes, you would connect the fans to the Sentry instead of the PSU

I like the Sentry series, it almost feels like the fan controller that's build into the NZXT Phantom 530 chassis may be based on the Sentry.

quick question as well, would the fan controller plug into the psu or would it plug into the motherboard?
