Fan speed too fast

Iv'e upgraded my PC 2 months ago and everything was working properly until today. The fans were unbelievably loud and are killing my ears. I opened up the case and was looking there was no wires unplugged and I also cleaned out the whole PC with 2 air can things. I then put my finger to stop one of the fans and my PC was suddenly quiet. Then I let go of the fan and it was loud again. So it looks like it's one of the fans that are very loud. Any help? I turned off superfetch and prefetch nothing worked.

Solution
Excess noise from a fan could be one of two causes, especially if this is a new factor in a system that was running quietly before. ONE is that the fan really is running very fast now and never was before, because for some reason the system is running hotter and needs more cooling. Dust causing bad cooling is one related cause, but you say you clean it out. BUT you have not told us which fan. IF it is the cooler on the CPU, there is one type of dust problem that is less obvious. Under that fan, right attached to the CPU, is the heatsink which has many fins with air gaps between them, and the fan blows air through that to remove heat. I have seen photos of systems in which the spaces between the heatsink fins are full of dust packed so...

I have seen photos of systems in which the spaces between the heatsink fins are full of dust packed so tightly that simply blowing air over them did not remove the dust. So, IF the noisy fan is the one on your CPU cooler, look carefully at that. See if you can look through the fan and determine whether there is junk between the heatsink fins.

Now, the second and MOST common source of new fan noise (and this applies to ALL fans) is that the fan's bearings have worn out. What often happens in the early stages of this process is that the fan makes a lot of noise when the system is started up from cold, then quiets down after a minute or so, but that is NOT always the case. As the bearings get old and wear out, they become too loose and the fan shaft "rattles" in the loose bearing as it runs. The only cure for that is to replace the fan.
