Far Cry 3 on Steam crashes before I can get to the main menu

Here is exactly what happens:
Launch game from Steam
Uplay opens
Click play
Game starts
begins loading
strange screen pops up with an empty dialogue box in the middle
cursor overlaps when I move it
click "ok" on the empty dialogue box
another loading screen
"Far Cry 3 has stopped working"

My specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
AMD Phenom II X4 3.2 Ghz
8 gigs of RAM
Nvidia Geforce GT 520 2 gigs (not the best video card but I figured I could play the game on low settings until my GTX 660 Ti comes in the mail)
I have tried everything. Please help.

6950 2gb @ 850mhz, 1320mhz memory
8gb ram

I have reinstalled every components drivers, reinstalled steam, uplay, and farcry itself.

I have tried removing the OC on both components, tried offline mode, tried all the internet tutorials I could find and now I'm stuck.

for me, it crashes without ever getting past the initial loading screen.

Hmm, strange. I have 64bit windows 7 and farcry works fine for me with i3 2100 and 7850 2gb. I downloaded directly from uplay however.

Same with me, crashed before initall loading screen. I'm re installing and restarting ETC... Anyone have some ideas?

I had same problem. Installed it to my other harddrive (C) and it worked perfect. Somthing about uplay and steam not playing well together.

Can you open as administrator straight from the directory rather than through Steam?

Make sure that steamlibrary and steam are both installed on the same storage device.

Iplikator is a troll and a hater ignore him. Buy from wherever u prefer. He called me a steam fanboy just for sharing what happened to me which happened to be on steam.

I've had a similar problem but did you guys trying right clicking on the game > then hit properties> then verify game content or verify local integrity? That solved the problem for me.

I stated that thats what happened to me. I was sharing the miracle fix that stopped me from cursing farcry 3 and never playing it. Sorry for trying to be helpful. And who blew steam up your butt (hahaha get it? Steam). U obviously work for ubisoft or something or are a fanboy for real cursing stream on every post. Its just a store. I go with whoever has the best deal on the game i want and so does almost everyone else. I thought toms forums was drama free. Evidently they forgot the spam blocker today....

Well i did try and help. The exact same thing, exact, happened to me and it stunk not being able to play farcry3 on uplay through steam. I uninstalled farcry and i reinstalled it to my other hardrive where steam and uplay are installed and it fixed it 100%. Try this Endcomplete. The only reason i posted on this thread was to help from what i learned. Steam and ubisoft support do not help very much, they tell u to close running apps and send u a list of things to try that dont work.

i actually fixed this weeks ago but thanks everyone for helping out!
