Fast Modem Slow Router woes...

Hello,

I pay for 300mbps from Cox. Connecting my laptop directly to the modem (Netgear CM1000) gave a speed test of almost exactly 300. Woohoo! When I connected my router, an old netgear WNR2000 speeds would vary between 30 and 100 mbps (typically on the higher end than lower) on all devices. Connecting to the router via ethernet (cat5.e) or over wifi resulted in no appreciable change in speed. Thinking my router is old, I bought an ASUS RT-1200. There is almost NO change in speed over the old netgear router. I even swapped in a cat6 cable from the modem to the router. I'm clearly getting the 300mbps from Cox, but somewhere after the modem I'm losing it. Brand new equipment... What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help!

From what I'm reading this sounds like it. Because the new router (RT-1200) also only lists 10/100 ports. I guess I have some fundamental misunderstanding. If the ports are only able up to 100 mbps, then how do they advertise data rates exponentially higher? Guess I'm buying a new 10/100/1000 router...

The RT-AC1200 is faster if you use WiFI. But the LAN ports are 10/100. Hopefully the WAN is incorrectly listed as 10/100.

Ports RJ45 for 10/100 BaseT for WAN x 1, RJ45 for 10/100 BaseT for LAN x 4
USB 2.0 x 1
