Fast read slow write speed. New SSD.

Hello everyone.

I hope we can find a solution because im about to go crazy.

Yesterday i bought a brand new Sandisk SSD Plus 120 GB. My laptop is LenovoZ510, which supports SATA3.

I installed the windows 10 when AHCI was enabled.

Everything is seeming nice. All the drivers are up to date.

But i get around 450MB/S read speed tho my write speed is around 70-80.

I'm very confused and concerned about this. Sandisk dashboard app says everything is ok with the SSD. Ran all diagnostics i can find, no errors whatsoever.

Please, help me about this stuff.

that is to be expected. the drive is suggested for read intensive environments.

can you return it? what is your budget? I would suggest a larger unit if possible as the drives larger than 120GB are faster.

Agreed, it is a low end DRAMless model that comes in several hardware variations. What is the exact model number and how full is the drive, the more full the drive the worse the writes (especially on this drive with no DRAM buffer)?

However, it is very inexpensive and is okay in random performance and you really don't buy a 120GB drive without a DRAM buffer for sequential write performance. You buy it because it's cheap and fits a very tight budget.

which is why I suggest returning it and replacing with a better unit.

You will be doing very few large sequential writes with high Q depth with this drive, it's not like you are writing SQL databases, so don't worry about it. You will in most uses be doing 4k random writes.

Benchmarks don't really tell you a lot about what to expect if you don't look at benchmarks that are representative of how you will use a particular storage device. How does it feel in everyday use compared to your HDD? That's the real question for you.

edit: and if you can/will return and replace look at Samsung 850 EVO if you really want to get the benchmarks up -- also consider getting a larger drive as they perform faster from 240/250GB and up.
