Hi all,
could anyone tell me what can I do to speed up the shutdown process. Is this related to running tasks etc ?

Thanks in advance.

Well, it has to do with what you've done during that Windows session. If the cache is full and the swap file is huge then it takes time for WIndows to flush the cache to disk and clear the Swap file.

One thing you can do, though, is have less programs running to start up with once Windows logs in.

Yes, as the more programs you have loaded up in the first place, the more programs there'll be running in the background while you're in the session of Windows. As the time goes by, those programs tend to clog up the system's memory and cache more and more, resulting in a mess when Windows has to shut down.

That could also be why half of the installed ram (2 x256mb) is being used.

Thanks...That much I do know :)
Just wondering if windows has a trick I can do to minimise memory usuage, its not a problem just thought some trick could be done besides using programs such as cachemen etc.

Well, if you limit the size of the VCache, you may be able to speed up shutdown. You can use Cacheman to do that.
