Just woundering as above i've looked at the IBM Deskstar 75GXP but it says its 37mb per sec witch i thought sux so i looked at Maxtors 60 Fireball Plus AS but i couldnt find out how fast it was.... Whats the better of the two? or is there something faster then both?

I would go with the Maxtor cause it is going to be cheaper and you can find it almost anywhere retail. Also you are going to get about the same performance as the 75GXP series. As far as what I have seen the IBM has slightly a little better performance, but I don't know if it is really something to get in a stink over! I don't even think anyone will be able to see the difference? Maybe on paper!

Another thing is that the 60gig in the 75GXP series has 4 platters and the Maxtor only has 3. From what I have heard is that the more platters that are on a drive the less reliable they are ....? They have a 75gig in that series that has 5 platters in it. Maxtor's 80gig doesn't even have 5 platters!

That is my opinion though ... *:O)

I would actually go with the IBM. Maxtors tend to stay in my mind as a brand that's not as reliable. But of course, that's just my personal opinion. And yes, the IBM does perform slightly better.

According to a review on harddrive I read a few week ago Maxtor is faster than IBM. But I will not go will Maxtor because I think IBM harddrive is more reliable.
