Hi folks...

I did a from the ground up build using a Gigayte GA-X99-SLI motherboard, intel CPU, Corsair CPU water cooler, Corsair memory and a Silver Stone Strider Gold S series 850W power supply.

I have built most of my computers but it has been a while and a lot of this stuff is new to me.

When I plugged in the power cable from the wall electrical outlet to the power supply for the first time nothing happened. When I turned on the switch on the power supply from off to on, I had a quick on and then off LED flash on the motherboard. My Gigabyte manual calls this lamp "FBIOS_LED". After that quick on and then off of the LED, I turn the computer on and nothing happens. No lamps, no fan spin up, no noise no nothing. Using my VOM I can see that power is coming to the power supply.

I am not very happy with the way the manual is written for the Silver Stone Strider power supply. With the Gibabyte manual in one hand and the Silver Stone manual in the other, I carefully re installed all of my power connectors. I am about 95% sure I have the power from the power supply connected correctly to the motherboard. But I am not sure.

I am going to unplug all the cables from the motherboard and power up the power supply and look at voltages. I am guessing that when Silver Stone says "COM" that is the same thing as ground?

Anyway, after my build, nothing works. I suspect my power supply, but that is just a guess. I could find nothing in the Gigabyte manual that talks about the FBIOS_LED. I am not sure how to proceed.

Any tips on troubleshooting this problem? Will the power supply even put out any DC voltage when it is not plugged into a motherboard?

I unplugged and stripped down my build so all it sees on boot is a optical drive, a SS drive and I have video card installed in a PCIe-3 slot. I have yet to see the BIOS let along install the drivers or the OS.

Advice welcome. Thanks everyone.

PS: I am using a Urban VP 500 Series S71 case.

Update: I bought a Corsair AX860 power supply and it arrived this morning. I removed the power supply I had installed (Silver Stone) which I believe was defective out of the box. I like Corsair equipment, so I thought I would try it's power supply. It looks really cool to buy a power supply in a fancy logoed black bag and have the cables in another black caring case (?). I think it would be better for the environment if it did not have all the fancy packaging that it has. The manual was slight, but clear enough for me to hook it up.

When I turn on the power switch on the new power supply, I do not receive the error light "FBIOS_LED" on the motherboard. I think this means I have a working, good power supply.

The bad news is the computer will still not boot, light up or spin up any fans. I think the defective power supply cooked either my CPU the motherboard, or maybe both. I am gong to sleep on it tonight. I will either buy a new CPU or a new motherboard, or both tomorrow.

I looked over my power supply wiring on the first power supply before I took it all apart. I could not find any wiring issues. I double and tripled checked the wiring on the Corsair AX860 before I applied power. I believe it it wired up correctly.

I hope my memory, DVD burners and SS drive are still OK.

I still can not figure out how to properly test the first power supply with out it being connector to a motherboard.

This build is starting to cost way more then I thought it would. Any suggestions welcome.
