Basically im trying to upgrade my system to a workstation while keeping my graphics cards (2x gigabyte G1windforce 4GB) and hopefully my set of 2 - 2x8GB DDR3 Trident X 1600 Ram. I have good friend of mine willing to sell me a lightly used xeon E5 2670 v2 for waaaay below market value, but after reading various forums on the socket differences of intels v1 v2 and v3 of the 2011 im more confused than ever.

Most of the boards i have found that support DDR3 are just LGA 2011 and the 2790 v2 socket is labeled as FCLGA 2011. So i guess im asking if the v2 is backwards compatible?

Solution
It's just an LGA2011 - there's no separate FCLGA2011. It's just a more detailed description of the chip. It stands for flip-chip, meaning that the CPU connects to the motherboard with the top side down.
