Nope - never played any of the S T series - no wonder I didn't get the reference.

Create a Poll and put a link in the CPU forum.
I could, but the Poll section is almost as scary as the Other section. :O Besides, I think it's mostly been answered by now anyway. I think you said it best when you said "<font color=red>Kids these days - they know nothing about history!</font color=red>" It seems like us original trekkies are a rare breed.

Actually, red was the color for the security detail for the away teams. Inevitably, they were the ones who found the danger first...
At least the no-name ensigns who wore red did. It's funny how much of a joke this has become in <A HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshirt_(science_fiction)" target="_new">other sci-fi</A>.

That said, on a more serious note, it's sad that he died, but worse that it was by pneumonia and alzheimers. That's got to be a bad way to go. 🙁

Pleased to meet you. Hope you guessed my name.
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game.

Nope on the color reference - James T. Kirk wore a yellow/tan colored shirt.

Officially, the color was gold... but it always looked like an off-green to me.

And Scotty always wore a red shirt in the series... engineering personnel along with security wore red.

True story, but they didn't usually go on the away teams...

I have a new TV...

A Toshiba 57" Widescreen HDTV to be exact...

I'll admit the tunics look a little more gold now... but it's still not quite what I'd have in mind for gold.

We aren't that rare...Most of my friends and (male) co-workers know star trek...and we all know about the red shirts...
<walks to wardrobe>
Do you see any red shirts in here?
How about scantly clad women? Hell yea! ...too bad they're only pictures...(and what, may you ask, are they doing in my wardrobe...on second thought...you may not ask).

I'll miss the "...she can't take no mo' captain", or "the HULL SIR, she's break'n apart", and honestly, i just like say'n Scotty.

<badly done heavy scottish accent (which sounds more like a drunk then a scott)> "SCOTTY"

...Bridge to Engineering...Come in Spock...SPOCK!!! Damn it Jim, i'm a doctor not a <fill in the blank>.

Scotty...you will be missed.

Before signing on with the mythical Federation, Mr. Doohan was a decorated WW II Vet. He stormed the beaches at Juno Beach with the Canadians, was wounded SIX times including losing the middle finger on one his hands to a machinegon burst. They always managed to hide this on the screen. I salute this brave man and as a fellow Veteran mourn his passing. Says something about this board that his real life accomplishments would go unnoticed... get out and see the real world once in a while... it helps...

Thanks for the information and slap for me not including his biography. I think you should lighten up a bit tho, I was not dis-respectful. Oh, well, I will get back to owning a real world engineering company cracking the whip and making real world dollars along with supplying employment to those who wish to have a real life, but must work for me who has no real life... 😉

I was not upset at your posting, just the whole "red shirt" air of frivolity surrounding the topic of the brave mans death. Those weren't fake phasor blasts hitting his body but hot lead. And an aside, running a company and making money may be a part of the real world... but nothing is like that dreaded crack thump of a bullet traveling past your head faster than the speed of sound and knowing that the person who sent it meant to kill you...

This is one truth I know...

Actually, I knew and still appreciate his honorable service for our country. I'd like to take the chance to sincerely thank you for your service, too.

I currently serve on active duty in the military and have been for just over 12 years. I've been out in the real world, but I still took part in the frivilous "security detail" posts. I personally believe that he would want people to laugh and celebrate his life at the time of his passing. Again, I appreciate the sacrifices he made as a soldier, but he was an inspiration to people in other ways as well.

Kirk had 2 diff tops, a gold on duty & a green which i think was his casual/off duty top... all made of the flimsiest material possible as he could get it ripped by turning around too fast lol

Red was engineering & security in classic & gold was command, red became command & gold became security in next-gen & after

i only seen the classic show in re-runs, scotty & spock were my faves... :-( off 2 da big starship enterprise in space...

PS i knew he was an ww2 vet but not da details... fascinating...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by marneus on 07/26/05 02:03 PM.</EM></FONT></P>
