FF no post, ram?

I have an old PC that I was trying to add some more RAM to. Cpu is AMD phenom ii 840. MSI motherboard. I installed the new ram and it wouldn't boot. Took it out, booted up like normal. So, to see if I had bad ram, I took the old ram out and put the new in. FF error, no post. So I took the new ram out and put the old back in. Still same FF no post. Checked my connections, everything seems fine. What could be going on here?

motherboard may be locked up have you tried clearing the cmos??
