File recovery help

Hi, I'm wondering if anybody could give me some advice.

Last night deleted a large file containing all my video files on an external hard drive by mistake.
I searched the net and came across recuva.

This morning less than 24 hours after deleting my files I have tried to recover the files, however this is where the problem started, previously around 3 months ago I deleted a lot of mp3s to make space. Now once I started the recovery procedure (I didn't tick the deep scan option) the files began to restore, however a large portion of those files are coming back to me with the original file name (video movie file etc) however the actual files are my old mp3s which I deleted months ago and not my video files. I have looked around and it says as long as you don't write over them that you should be able to get them back but the ones I'm getting back are the files that were deleted and I guess written over by the actual files I'm trying to restore.

I have now stopped the recovery and deleted the files in the hope that I may be able to restore all the files successfully. Also I am having to restore the items onto the hard drive that I'm trying to restore as there isn't enough space on my pc.

If anyone could offer me some advice on what to do if at all possible to retrieve the files that are coming out as mp3s and all my other video files I would be very grateful.

When you started Recuva what options did you use for the scan? Did you chose a specific location, i.e. the external drive, instead of the C: drive (which is the default drive it chooses)? Did you choose all files or select video files?
