File Security Error

So Strange issue. I'm not sure what happened, but with my windows 7 pro 64 bit, I have an external backup drive 2tb, loaded with my pictures, and fles and everything. Now suddenly,i'm getting errors when I try to access them. If I open a picture(or anything) it says I have to take ownership of the files to view the security properties. Then I still can'tview them, it says I don't have the rights to view the file. This happens with movie files, pictures, text documents, pdf's, everything. I can go in and add "everyone" in the security settings to have full access, but is there a way to do this for the entire drive, folders, files and all? Just the pictures I have total over 11 thousand. There is no way I can do them one at a time.

Thank you for that. I'm able to access everything again! One thing I noticed now is all the folders have little locks on them. Those weren't there before, so I'm not sure what that means. I don't think it looked like this before.
