If you want to try a good remake of an old game, play one of the remade monkey island games - they're so well made they put those 'made playable' games to shame

I never had problems with the original PC port of this game, but I also have a Voodoo2 card that plays it flawlessly. Had it running at 640x480 quite smooth. Plug in my SideWinder gampad, and away I go ( yup, I've got an old Win98 box sitting around just for FFVII, XCom, and a few others. )

As for the MIDI music, you're getting the same music as the original PSOne version since that's essentially MIDI too. The music didn't sound the same on a PC because most PCs at the time had very limited MIDI synth abilities that didn't match the MIDI voice bank on the PS. Sadly, yes, the vocals on One-Winged Angel were dropped on PC. However, for those that had advanced MIDI sequencing support on their PCs ( a SoundBlaster AWE or Live! card, Roland card, or software like Yamaha XG SoftSynth ) the music actually sounded a lot better than the PS since you could tweak your wavetable and/or voice banks. Actually, I'm pretty sure the PC release came with XG SoftSynth ( or that might have come with my Live! card, I'm not sure. )
