It’s been about 3 years since I’ve upgraded but it’s finally time to decide what I want.
I’m not the best at the parts aspects so I’ll need some help!

Current rig (Mainly gaming):
CPU: Intel i7770K
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070
RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 2400Mhz
MOBO:
GigaByte DAZ270P-D3
HDD: 1TB Generic
SDD: 100GB + 250GB WD SSDs
PSU: 650W Seasonic Core Gold GC-650 80PLUS

So I think the next part I need is a CPU right? I noticed a slight bottleneck in games I’ve been playing recently and I’m pretty sure it’s the CPU.

So with this build, where do i go next, do I need a new mobo if getting a CPU, what CPU is going to be worth it for the price, experts please help!
Thanks!

Looking at the recent HUB video, on VRM testing, any of the more budget friendly Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte Z690 boards will be fine with a 12700k. While some boards did considerably better, none of the boards failed their testing, even with a 12900k.
So a 12700k will only run on a Z690 right? Sorry just trying to keep up lol.
I had a quick look on amazon and seems very hard to get a Z690 for under 200£, so if I am wanting a CPU upgrade to a 12700K I would need to spend atleast that much on a MOBO?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the detailed reply, sorry for the slow one on my end! Been looking at the parts youve linked, do you think there would be a cheaper option for a mobo, didn't realize I would have to drop about 200£ on one 😱

Unfortunately there are no cheap options for Z690, there are 'cheaper' models like the MSI PRO Z690-P DDR4 but it looks rather boring imo and loses niceties like an integrated IO shield.

As suggested above, B550 is an option. You can get a decent one for around £130/£150 with sufficient power delivery for a 5900X. What you give up relative to X570 is PCI-E 4 on everything. So with the B550 you can have one NVME gen 4 drive, the rest will have to use PCI-E 3 lanes. For most people though that is probably not going to matter, a plus is you don't need a chipset fan.

No a 12700K will run on any board (assuming sufficient power delivery) however only the Z690 boards are available right now, the B660 boards are coming next year. Though to be honest, given the 12700K is a high end chip, it's most appropriate to pair it with a high end motherboard.

As for the cost, yes I think you just need to accept that's how much they are. On the plus side though the 12700K would probably last you a while. The 5900X is more expensive even though boards are cheaper, so the only way to bring the cost down would be to go for a 5800X or a 12600K.
