Finding gateway address

W98 does not 'see' gateway address when I CMD and ipconfig:

Here's my setup :

* Wireless router
---WXp
----Vista
----HP Printer
All is working great

* Adding:
* 4 port Switch
* I Cabled this switch direct to Wireless Router
* W98 cabled to Switch
* TCP set to Auto

How do I get W98 to recognize Gateway address ? ipconfig shows '0' for gateway address.

Is the gateway the only thing that's missing? IP address is correct? Try rebooting the router, then the PC.

Rebooted. IP address is correct. TCP set at automatic

What happens if the Windows '98 machine is cabled directly to the router - any difference? I have it right at the back of my mind that it matters whether you have First or Second Edition '98 but can't quite remember why. Maybe someone else has an idea.

Old Presario laptop. Motherboard dated 1998.

Cabled direct to the Wireless router but still no gateway----I can enter a gateway address and it will show up on ipconfig.

Any text or figure you puti n there will show as the Gateway but it doesn't mean it's he righ tone. Take the precise Gateway from an ipconfig call in one of the connected machines and duplicate it in the Presario.

Thanks Saga: entered Gtwy into Presario and it shows up in ipconfig now. But, no luck---doesn't ping.
