Hi,

I have Verizon FIOS 100/100. When I use the fios router mentioned above I receive speeds of 60/60. But when I use the DLink router I receive speeds of 20/20. Everything else is the same, i.e. range of computer, computer setting, number of computers, time of trying both routers. Plugged into the ethernet I get download speeds of 100

What is wrong with the DLink?

Solution

That was not clear from your previous posts, I assumed you had connected the D-Link to the Actiontec not the ONT.

Looking at the title again, I see you say you are running 1.0 firmware. There is 1.14 firmware on the D-Link site. You should update and see if that makes any difference.
Your FIOS is probably a rev "I" not "1" . It sounds like the D-Link is not configured correctly for wireless N. Be sure you have it configured for WPA2 with AES encryption. Have you tried the D-Link on the 5Ghz band?

60Mbit may be the max depending on what device you have as a client. If you only have an single stream device you will be running as an N150 (which would have a throughput of around 60 to 65 mbit).

My laptops don't have 5ghz capability but my phone does. My phone gets about 15 on 5ghz on the DLink. But it only gets 30 on the verizon router.

I should have clarified, my question is, what is up with my D-Link? I want to return the verizon router but my DLink needs to work properly work first. I'll check the WPA2 AES encryption (I'm pretty sure that's what it is). I also went into the router settings and set it to 'n' only. No change in performance.

Sorry for the late reply. I connect the ONT to the WAN port on both routers.

How do I know if it is gigabit connectivity? Isn't that only when connected to the ethernet cable? The problem is with the wireless internet speed.

Connecting the WAN port on the D-Link is not the best way. You should read how to convert your router to an access point -- http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/36406-43-convert-wireless-router-wireless-access-point That will prevent the D-Link from having to route. If the link between the routers is bad, either because it has a bad cable, or the ports have not negotiated correctly, then you could have generalized problems from the D-Link.

Isn't the AP needed if there are two routers connected?

I am only connecting to the ONT at a time. The speeds from the Actiontec are significantly better than speeds from the DLink.

Awesome. The firmware made a huge difference. Now my status also says 300Mbps instead of 65Mbps.

I did however also call Verizon, as I was updating my firmware, and asked them to drop my speed from 100/100 to 50/50 because I though 65 would be the highest my wireless card could take. Maybe some refresh on their changed something.

I did also make sure that the encryption is WPA2-AES, with n only and 20/40MHZ (my laptops only pick up 2.4GHz while my phones pick up 5GHz - and I don't know if my laptops do 40MHz - any ideas?).

My upload speed however now is only getting 5Mbps with the DLink router.... Any ideas about that?

Also one computer has a better down/up speed than the other but I checked the wifi alliance website and saw that that better computer has 2 spatial streams instead of 1.

So your last paragraph explains the better performance on one computer vs another.

I still have stayed at 25/25 with FIOS and am fine with it but it is just me and spouse.

I don't have a specific explanation for the slow uploads. It usually won't matter in normal use. Do your phones show slow upload also?
