Firecuda vs Barracuda

I'm looking to upgrade/replace the Seagate ST32000641AS with an SSHD. There is nothing wrong with the Seagate, but since it is over 5 years old, I'd rather replace it before it starts to fail rather than after. I'm looking on amazon, and I found two 2TB sshds by Seagate. One is a Seagate Barracuda, the other is a Seagate FireCuda. There is a $15 difference between the two drives. Anyone know what the difference is between the two that makes the firecuda worth the extra money?

The Firecuda is an SSHD, its a 2tb drive with an 8gb SSD built in that is used to cache files to bring up performance. Its not a huge difference but many of our users have it and it can help sometimes.

EDIT: Crap missed that you picked up the old Barracuda SSHD, not regular Barracuda HD. Technically they are the same, however the Firecuda is the new model and "faster" according to Seagate.

I was thinking about those two too. I read that the FireCuda is the newer version of that Seagate SSHD. I truly believe that they are very much the same and just enough tweaks to the controller to make a new product. It seems like it's one of those things where the name sounds cooler, so pay an extra $15. There's hardly a difference in read/write speed or cache, which I doubt anyone would notice.

If you compare the specs on a variety of sites, you'll find hardly any difference between them. Just be careful because I have seen where manufactures will use nifty names instead of hard specs to sell something, i.e. Western Digital's IntelliPower. When I was looking at the FireCuda, I used Neweggs compare parts feature, which I've always revered while I do my component shopping because it makes it convenient to look at specs. However, sometimes they leave some specs out.

FireCuda seems to be meant to be a more "premium" SSHD. 5 year warranty and advertised higher speeds and durability. Much longer warranty leads me to believe the durability claim may have some merit, and SSHDs, while having little immediate benefit, can over time end up a bit faster than regular HDDs.

If it's only 15$ more expensive I'd go for it.

I ordered the firecuda, should be in tomorrow. As far as I can tell, the difference in the price is the warranty. I compared specs on Newegg, and the RPMs for the barracuda were suspiciously absent, meaning they are probably the same as the firecuda, otherwise they would have mentioned a lower rpm.
