I think any new release should be treated as an update and not a new browser. Everytime I open Chrome has something new. Firefox should not ask either... and its user stop complaining about Firefox numbers! Its the same browser, better than ever. And love its extensions, cant live without:
HTTPS-Everywhere
Adblock Plus
Downthemall
Video Download Helper

Chrome was fast, but las night 10 pages opened with some videos eat 1gb of ram... so I went back to Firefox.

Yes, linux versions are available as well. The issue with many Linux distros only having 3.6 is because many distros only offer firefox packages using FF 3.6 (*cough* Ubuntu *cough*). Most people have to wait until their distro backports a newer version of FF or they can download a build directly from Mozila.

I would love to upgrade to 8 but every release since 3.6 crashes on my work computer. Fix the neglected issues and maybe more people would switch.

I began using firefox near the whole Neopets era. The closest thing to "buggy" I have experienced is freezing. I quickly reformatted and have never seen anything disturbing with Firefox since. Reformatting is the ultimate problem fixer haha

I'm also really glad about he Firefox recent memory management. I average 15 tabs and get 450mb vs the 1.1gb last year

8 wiped out all almost all of my bookmarks - how do I get them back?? how do I get 3.6 back with my bookmarks HELP

What I guess you haven't used Ubuntu much, my desktop running 11.04 updates firefox within days of being available, a few days ago it updated to 8, same as my lappy which is on 11.10 which has firefox 8 as well, both updated with the regular system update. I also tried a live cd of Mint 12 RC, it was on 7 but I'm guessing it will update to 8 if I installed and updated it, also tried Opensuse 11.4 with is one version old, installed it was on 6, updated to seven with system update, dunno if it goes higher because I fitted a wifi card and opensuse wouldn't detect it, so thats why I reformatted my desktop to 11.04 ubuntu because it detects all the hardware on the desktop and my lappy straight of the bat, thats on the live cd with nothing installed too. 10.04 and 10.10 are stuck on 3.6 but you just add the mozilla ppa and firefox keeps updating to the current version. My only complaint with firefox since 3.6 is I have to have a modded quake live plugin for it to work, but that may have changed I havn't played quake Live for a couple of months, I didn't install it on opensuse or the current install of Natty and the lappys for surfing not gaming
