[citation][nom]ntrceptr[/nom]Firefox is getting removed from my PC my home page is plain HTML located on my HDD and even it takes many seconds to load. Firefox was my choice of browser in the past due to it's speed and at one time was more secure.see ya FF my PC in back on the market...lolSingle PC looking for Web Browser.- must be responsive to my needs.- non memory eater.- must not be old and clunky.- Must accept my WinXP baggage (not enough DirectX 11 to make me adopt Win7 yet)[/citation]
I should be bashing FF for constantly going up in version number, however, I think I should slap you even harder for not adopting Win7

I believe version 9 has the memory improvements.

You don't have to wait for it. You can download the Aurora version which is firefox 9 beta. It's a separate install from firefox. I've used it for quite some time at work and it's had no issues that I've seen.

They need to stop updating the version number on Firefox 12. Then they should match the major version number to the year (2012), and minor version on the month (like 12.10 would be October release on 2012).

why is it so many people care about the mumber its called, the code behind it is sinificant enough that you would have to install it again anyway, either through a patch or a whole new version.

i perfer this method because i can install 3 5 and 8 at the same time, where as a patch that i dont like would require me to uninstall the whole program and than find a version that is a patch or so behind

version 4.2.45.2.6 or version 8, is there really that big a difference between what its called?

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]..it sucks just tried it. I understand it's a "beta" but good lord crashes every 5 mins.[/citation]
Been running the Beta channel since around Beta 5 and no crashes at all here, so what are you doing wrong?

Still consumeing a ton of RAM, sitting here watching task manager, and ff is bouncing between 113 to 212 megs.... supriseingly, I hit on foxnews.com, get 113 megs, then came to tomshd and it jumps to 212 before settling to 195, whats up with that???

As an update, I sit as I sit here watching taskman, firefox keeps consumeing RAM. I'm now at 256, and still climbing.... why?

The browser isn't doing jack, it's just sitting there...

Because the version numbers they are doing now is marketing stupidity, nothing more.
There are more changes done to Opera 11.50~11.52 than there is between FF 4.0~8.0 in the same period.

@memadmax :
I have opera running with many tabs. I closed down a single TomsHardware tab and my memory usages on Opera 11 went from 950mb down to 928mb. I have 27 tabs open as of now... ugh! Some of them are photo galleries (huge)... memory is stable. FF has 3 tabs and eats 202mb.

You should give Opera 11.5x a try.

Firefox 8 comes with new features to make your web browsing more exciting!
- a 1px high tab outline as opposed to 2px
- address bar has been extended to 200px from 199px.
- back button is now turquoise, instead of cyan.

I for one welcome Firefox 4.0.5.

the memory useage on ff4-6 were solved in 7 and 8.
i have to admit that opera i know very little about, because i dont like the browser all that much, as i find it annoying and i cant find the options to make it not annoying.

Fixing a memory leak (bug) does not equate to a NEW VERSION number.

What annoying issue are you talking about with Opera? 10 vastly improves over 9... 11 is very sweet.
The options for Opera exceed any other browser on the market.

One thing I changed was I re-added the text-find function which was default on Opera 9 back onto 11.
Features of Opera 11 that rock:
1 - Speed dial
2 - Tab Stacking/grouping
3 - Tab thumbnails
4 - tab and Window trashcan... bring back tabs you have closed out since the session started.
5 - best TEXT find interface (later copied somewhat on late versions of Chrome)

Opera allows you to put tool bars, buttons on any side and in any position. You can add and remove to your hearts content.

The interface is far cleaner than IE 8 and even 9. And of course, team firefox ripped off the Opera 10 look.
