Hello I am having an issue that I have no idea how to solve if it can be solved. I have a Firewire 400 PCI card installed on my PC since years ago and it used to work fine but since I changed my motherboard a couple of months back, this card is not recognized by the system most of the time but sometimes it is.

The card has a blue led light in the back and it turns on everytime I turn on the PC, I have an audio interface that used Firewire connected to it but the light on the interface that says FW is not lighting up and in windows when I go to my devices I dont see the IEEE 1394 Host device installed.

Once again this is like 90% of the time, sometimes the card is being recognized and the light on my Audio Interface turns on and the IEEE 1394 device appears on my devices on Windows.

I have no idea why this works sometimes and sometimes it does not, I have to pull out the PCI card an put it back a couple of times until it works but its weird that even though it does not work most of the time it does power on the led and it also powers my audio interface.

Any help? There is little to no support for these kind of cards anymore.

Thanks

Check this. Since you replaced your mobo, you may also have replaced several device drivers in Windows. But you may not have replaced the driver for that add-on card in a PCI slot. To be absolutely sure, do this sequence.
1. Go into Device Manager and try to find that IEEE1394 device. If it is there, Delete it. Back out, shut down, and physically remove the card from its slot.
2. Close up and boot up the machine. This will ensure that Window no longer knows anything about such a card because it is not even there. It will have removed it from its Registry. Shut down again.
3. Re-install the card in the PCI slot, close up, and boot up. Windows should find the "new" device and help you to install the correct device driver for it. When that...

When that is done, go back into Device Manager and check for it. There should be no yellow triangle flag on it. (Such a flag indicates Windows has a problem with that device or its driver.)
4. IF for some reason you think the driver it installed in not right, you can RIGHT-click on the device and Update the driver, specifying exactly where to find the driver you want to use.

Now see it it works as you expect.

Thanks Paperdoc, I had some issues by windows not showing up the IEEE1394 device so I had to disconnect the card turn the computer on, turn off connect the card and turn it back on. It still sometimes when I reboot wont recognize my card and sometimes it does so I think I have to live with this for now. Great answer by the way.
