I've this old spare DLink router which is working fine and I want to use it with WDS Bridging to connect with my main router (TP-Link) to be used in other room as my desktop doesn't have WiFi.
I tried using it's WDS and AP options to connect with my main router but it just selects it and doesn't even ask for a password. So, Can anybody please arrange the updated firmware of it?

Model no. - DLink DSL-2730U/IN
H/W Ver - C1(written on its back) and A1 (as per DLink's webstire using serial no.)
F/W Ver - IN_1.00

Solution
That is a old device and you could have many issues.

First and most important it must have "clinet-bridge" mode. This means it acts as a wifi adapter rather than function as a destination (ie server) for devices to connect to.

This was extremely uncommon years ago. Even in modern routers it is not something you find on most routers. It is more a feature that you would find on a so called "repeater/extender".

Next WDS is not a standard it is a basically a hack the router vendors use to get past the restrictions of having the mac address part of the encryption keys. When they first started to do this you had massive incompatibility between brands. Lately though they seem to have figured this out and most device inter...

Firmware for routers is hard. Many devices even a year or two old have been abandoned by the manufacture and they no longer put out updates. The device you have was first on the market over 10yrs ago.

When you have devices that have DSL modems in them there is very little interest by third party people to port firmware to them since you can't distribute the DSL drivers and that assumes you can even get them.

You are pretty much stuck with what you find on the dlink site. I strongly suspect that box can not do what you want.

Thanks for the reply, sir. I've figured this out and am going to order a new and powerful one to use as a second main router(not even as a repeater). I just wanted to know if it's possible. Thanks.
