Got a Gigabyte B660M DS3H AX DDRR Motherboard with i5 12500.
It booted fine using the onboard Intel UHD Graphics.
Unfortunately, the MB only has Display Port and HDMI connectors.
Would like to use my existing monitor with DVI cable.
Installed an old GTX 550, but get no display just a black screen.
Cannot access the BIOS as I do not even get the MB flash screen.
The internet is full of talk about resetting Bios to default, uninstalling drivers etc.
What is the correct procedure to deal with this issue?
I expected the BIOs would automatically boot in Safe mode no matter what was installed.

Solution
Older graphics cards may not get recognized if your bios is set to uefi and has not set CSM mode.
Graphics cards before GTX7xxx ran in legacy mode and your bios must be able to recognize that.

Any graphics card has a default low res mode that will operate without any drivers. That is how you can run before you download drivers.

Why would you want to prefer dvi over hdmi or DP?
The latter will transmit sound if your monitor has speakers.

It's possible that the system is booting the OS GUIO, but a lack of power to your GPU is preventing the GPU to output any display. Make and model of your PSU and it's age? In second thoughts, please parse the specs to your build.

If your system is an upgrade over your prior build with you only swapping out the motherboard, did you reinstall the OS?

Does the GTX 550 even still work? Are you sure? It's an older card and nothing lasts forever.
Yes, it works. So I found a Youtube video which suggested removing the BIOS battery for 5 mins to reset BIOS to default. At first it was still a black screen with the HDMI cable. I then swapped to the D=Sub (15 pin VGA) and got a display. The monitor is LG Flatron IPS 226v and i am not sure if it has some setting that locks it.

Thanks. I think that must be solution. I will need to readup more on UEFI and Legacy modes.
Was keen on DVI as this is a temporary setup and I needed to run the new build alongside the old ( with DVI cable) and easily swap between the two.
