First build and major issue

This is my first build, hooked everything up and everything runs perfectly. But then i tried playing arma 3 and i cant get above 3 fps. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have no clue what to do.

i7 4790k
msi gaming 7
gtx 980 G1
evga 850 g2
rog swift

I did as you recommended and everything is updated. Didnt seem to be the issue unfortunately.

I tried another game offline and had the same issue. The video output to the monitor is extremely choppy and laggy.

Did you install the latest nvidia drivers? If you haven't, no drivers = no gameplay

Have you tried any other game/s, assuming the other game you mentioned trying was Arma 3 offline?
Apart from what others have mentioned select auto select in Arma 3 settings. When viewing distance is set to great Arma 3 turns into a slide show for me also.
