I know there are a lot of threads about HD not being detected, but none of them have helped me.
This is my first time ever building a computer, and I don't know a whole lot.
The parts are:
CPU - AMD A10-6800k
MB - MSI A68HM-E33
PSU - Antec VP-450w
HD - Hitachi 2TB SATA 6Gb/s

The Hard Drive is not detected by the Windows Installation (Windows 7 64bit) or the Bios.
I have plugged a DVD Drive into the same connections as the HD and it is detected just fine.
The hard drive powers on and sounds like it is constantly cycling (I don't know if this means it is bad or not). I did purchase the hard drive new about three years ago and never got around to using it until now.
I have tried changing the settings in the Bios from IDE, Raid, and AHCI with no luck.
Unfortunately I do not have a second computer to test the hard drive on (My current OLD computer has no SATA connections on it).

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

The drive is not detected by the BIOS. In the bios menu SATA 1-4 all say no device (Or something along those lines, I'm not at home to look at it right now).
I have not loaded the SATA drivers, I don't really know how to do that. Where would I get the SATA drivers? From the MSI webpage for that Mother Board?

the problem is if the BIOS does not recognize the drive then Windows will not list it.

Can you hear the drive spin up or does it spin up into a clicking noise?

Yes the SATA drivers are available on the MSI website.

Thank you for the responses. I tried all the drivers from the windows install, and they stayed hidden because the box "Hide drivers not compatible with hardware" was checked. So for some reason it is saying the correct drivers were not compatible. A friend of mine let me borrow an old hard drive of his and it was recognized right away. So it looks like my hard drive is dead. It powers on into a clicking noise. Not sure if there is anything that can fix it or just take the loss

In my experience, the manufacturer of the drive may be able to extended the warranty of the drive (if it turns out the warranty has ended). They may ask for a receipt/invoice to show you in fact did purchase it. Also if they do this, it's done as a courtesy. So, find a method to ask whoever you get on the phone if they can grant you this exception.
