First build! Lots of questions!

Hello! I am a new PC builder and haven't built before (as I am only 16), I have decided to try something new, but mostly because my old...old, very old pre-built PC gave in after so many years of use. As I am a new builder I have many questions, and would appreciate some input and advice from the experienced builders. My build that I'm planning out:

I would like some advice for maybe component changes and things that I can change for a better price while maintaining performance.
The mouse I've chosen, the Corsair Raptor M45, I won't say I'm not happy with it, but if I can find something better and or cheaper that still is aesthetically pleasing, that be sweet!
One more final question, is my optical drive from my old PC, the drive is an old LG drive from late 2005, and I was just wondering if it's still compatible with my current standings on this build.

How does your old DVD drive connect? Is it with a sata cable and an IDE cable? You don't actually need water cooling unless you plan on doing some extreme overclocking and with your experience thus far I'm not sure it's a good idea.

Maybe try the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler instead - cheaper and better.

Maybe try the Asus VE248H monitor instead - cheaper and OK

If your DVD palyer has same connections - SATA comms and power - then you'll be OK. Theyre only $20 anyway.

no that's old school.. don't use that. an ASUS sata DVD/RW is only $20 these days, maybe less.

i asssume prices are canadien and it's less than US thes days? they all seem very high.


nothing wrong with that... id personally go with a bit cheaper case, and spend a bit more on PSU... the corsair Cx is kind of 'meh' quality wise.

I'd also go with a 24" monitor... you'll thank yourself later!

I removed the water cooler and added an air cooler, added a better power supply because the Corsair CX series is known to have problems, and changed the GTX 760 to a 770. I also changed the motherboard to something slightly cheaper and added a good 23 inch monitor.

Compatibility Notes
In order to fit, the MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card may require removing drive bays from the NZXT Phantom 410 (Gunmetal/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case. The case only supports video cards up to 230mm in length without removing drive bays, while the video card is 260mm long.

Since I only have the one HDD and the one SSD I was originally planning on removing it for increased airflow from the front. Then I can place those the storage drives in the bottom bays. Thanks for you input!

ok cool I just figured it was a hassle and different case would work better. If u up for it and really like the case have fun! Good luck with the rig
