First Build, Mixed Use, Advice Wanted

I'm looking to start my first custom build and would like some advice on the options I have selected after researching various components. I don't know a whole lot about cases or cable management or airflow issues so recommendations and/or warnings would be great.

I've managed to run my Alienware desktop for the last 7.5 years while only having to update the video card but I think it's nearing the time to start fresh.
This build will be a multi purpose system with uses for digital art (heavy multi-thread use), 3D modeling, gaming and many multi tab browsing while doing any combination of the other uses. I'd also like it to be as future proof while still being cost effective as possible. Future upgrades will also be possible as I see what I need.

I'm not terribly interested in a lot of flashy lights or how it all really looks. I'm all about function and performance as I'll probably be the only person who ever really sees it. I'm also not interested in all the tiny micromanagement of watts, power consumption and manual overclocking of....anything so I'd like the selection of those types of things to be relatively straightforward and for lack of a better term "plug and play". I understand the gamers who love to do those types of micromanagement and if I ever find a real need to I might dabble but it's just not something I want to invest a lot of time in learning if I don't have to.

Here is the part list I have so far:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N8pHpG

I have a 32inch 144Hz 1440p freesync monitor already which is one of the reasons why I'm going AMD for the GPU.

There is also the option to hold off on the GPU if there are other options coming soon. I can put my R9 390x in it until then if I can get something better in the near future.

I also have an optical drive I'll cannibalize from my current system another Samsung 1T ssd that I'll pull from my current pc (after it's all together and works) as well as two 4T Hard drives. The pcpartpicker comes with the warning about older BIOS needing to be updated for newer CPUs which I'm unsure I understand completely.

Thanks for reading and for helping! ^-^

why B350... Get X470 for 2nd gen Ryzen :) B350 came out for 1st gen and may need BIOS update to serve 2nd gen.
Dual channel ram is good enough for Ryzen, quad is more for X399, not to mention harder to make 4 rams running stable at high clock speed.
Get a better case too, DIYPC is not great quality. psu is overkill, 650 good quality is enough, unless you consider crossfire later on.

Better motherboard for overclock, better for your memory, MSI can be tricky.

Also, the OS and Office, you don't need to pay so much, google online for Windows cheap.

Hold on to the R9 390X and get the next gen Radeon card.

But this will last you a long time before needing an upgrade.

Also consider using 2gb of system ram with say maybe 250gb of ur ssd for an even faster volume with AMD StoreMI.

Thanks guys! Yeah I read that somewhere about the dual channel soon after I posted this. I had these picked out but if other are better....... https://pcpartpicker.com/product/rHGj4D/corsair-vengeance-led-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr4-3200-memory-cmu32gx4m2c3200c16

Good to know about the motherboard. I'm not digging all the red on the MSI what about this one? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/6hF48d/asus-prime-x470-pro-atx-am4-motherboard-prime-x470-pro It seems similar, has good reviews and is more toned down in looks.

That's to bad about that case, even though I'm not all about how it looks I was hoping for a white or silver case.

I want this to be future proof which is one of the reasons I wanted the 850W power supply and I plan to put more hard drives in it.

I thought about the threadripper but I don't think I need quite that much power at the moment and the 2700x though not as many cores it is faster.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the video card? I've read various things about the vega 64 versus the 56. I'm curious when AMDs next card will come out and what the specs and price will be. I hate the fine line between waiting for something better or getting what's good now.

The R9 390 can still do 1080p 144hz. It's slightly slower than the 1070.

Keep the R9. I wouldn't recommend the Vega 56/64 for 2k 144hz. It's able to power everything now but won't last long. Cuz the Vega 64 is a gtx 1080 class card and I would recommend a 1080ti class card for longevity.

Since your work loads will involve high cpu usage, the stock cooler won't cut it. Get a kraken x62.

The case can house it in the top and leave room for fresh air for the gpu from the front. Comes in white.

Just look at the price of those rgb rams and non rgb 3200mhz rams and decide for yourself if it is worth it.

I would actually suggest a non rgb g.skill sniper X 3600mhz for your build.

Get a top rated mobo. Something from asrock would also be good :

My R9 390x is struggling since I got the new 1440p 32 inch freesync monitor. It's also running really hot too and seems to have issues with self regulating fan speed to keep up with the heat. I'm already in for AMD with my freesync monitor and everything I've read says that they aren't going to drop the next generation card for some time so I don't think I want to wait that long to upgrade it. After lots more looking, reading and combing though other custom builds the part list currently looks like this at the moment:

Add in a cryorig A 80 cooler.

U might wanna consider phanteks evolv X Silver for a compact case. Or the Luxe tempered glass for a full tower. The 760 v2 is old. I also think the lian li pc o11 air comes in white version if you are interested.

Add in a couple of corsair ML140/ML 120 pro white fans.

I think the fact that it has an external 5.25 bay is why it's "old". I read somewhere that most new cases don't have them. I have a blueray from my current pc that I would want to put into this build. I'll probably hold off on another cooler until I test it with the one it comes with. I don't mind it being big seeing as it couldn't possible be as much of a beast as my Alienware Aurora R3 is! That thing is like 60 pounds! Fans sound good I just have to figure out where to put them. lol I keep seeing all these builds with a bunch of fans in the parts list and wondering where they all go.
Now I have to wait a bit for some birthday cash and maybe a couple of sales. That and try not to worry about putting in the CPU which is the part that fills me with dread. I'm not really worried about most of the "building", just that part. Thankfully I'm good with my hands.

Thanks for the help!
