Hi, I have never asked for help on a forum of any kind before, but I thought I might give it a shot for this because I am a little out of my depth. I am doing my first build and double and triple checked that all my connections were correct, but when I plug it in and try to turn it on the only response is a small green light on the graphics card. The PSU is not dead, I checked it using this guide: http://www.wikihow.com/Check-a-Power-Supply
The fan started up when the paperclip was inserted. I went through the checklist posted on here, and everything fixable was okay. I am afraid I was a little overeager and assembled on carpet without any kind of grounding, is it possible I damaged the motherboard severely enough to make it completely unresponsive? I also pushed down pretty hard on the CPU when I was putting on the heat sink, and I forgot at first to put in the spacers, but they are all in correctly now. Nothing was screwed in without them. I feel like none of this should have caused fatal damage though, but I could be wrong.

Here are the components I used:

XFX TS 550w Full Wired 80+ Bronze Power Supply
ASUS Radeon R9 270 2GB
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced
WD 1TB HD Black Series
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
AMD FX-8350
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
LG Internal 24x Super-Multi sata optical drive

Everything looks right to me, but hopefully someone knows something I missed. The UPCs for the motherboard, case and graphics card were already sent away for rebates, so getting a refund or replacement for those would be tricky.
