Hey! I am building my first gaming rig from scratch so I am just looking for advice. I am pretty confident as far as putting everything together and what not, so now I am focusing on getting quality parts that fit within my budget. My budget is just about $1,200 , a little over is fine, but I'd like to be under $1,200. With that in mind, I have selected the following parts:

Case: NZXT Phantom 410

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k

GPU: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 670

MOBO: Asrock z77 extreme 4 (or the extreme 6, I haven't decided yet)

RAM: G.Skill Ares 16GB

HDD: Samsung Spinpoint f3

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I am just wondering if these are the best parts for my budget, or if there are alternatives that are better for cheaper/comparable prices. ANy advice you can provide is highly appreciated!

8Gb is absolutely fine for the normal user. Unless you really feel you need 16Gb, 8Gb will last you fine, and upgrading shouldn't be too difficult.
