How is this for a first pc build. I was trying to keep the budget down, broke high schooler. I have 2 500Gb external hdds gathering dust in the origional packaging. I was planning on using the intergrated hd 4600 for low 720p medium gaming ( cod waw/ skyrim being the most demanding games I have until the summer sale). Later planning on adding a 270x.

I would recommend staying far away from integrated graphics for gaming
The only game i could run was skyrim on my hd4000 but it looked horrible and just wasnt a good experience
Might as well get a xbox 360 as the xenos chip is far better than integrated graphics
There are some really good affordable cards tho
For instance the 290x is on par with the 980 (imho) and half the price
Basically any dedicated card will do better you will hate integrated for gaming trust me you will barely be able to play anything on low
When they released titanfall they said you could play it but it just would not work
I think amd has integrated graphics with radeon cards tho you might be interested in as those systems are pretty beefy for the price ill post a link

http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/processors/desktop/a-series-apu

That might be your best bet
And i should clarify i was talking smack on Intel integrated graphics
The amd apus should do you good for what you need and in the price range

Someone correct me if im wrong

I have a copy of 8.1 and a mouse and keyboard. I also have an old monitor and a couple tvs that I could use vga-to-analog adapter (goodbye quality graphics on screen). I didn't want to go dual channel ram as I would like the availability to upgrade in the future, I will use programs like 3ds max and it helps quite a bit with 16Gb ram. Is the psu really that bad or will it last 5ish years? Should I spent a little extra to get a better psu? Any recommendations for psu, 30-40$. If so I can use an old case and drill more air holes and fan mounting points on it. I can go without playing skyrim, but I play it on my family's desktop with an a8 5500 in 1080p. the graphics are supposed to be 10-15% better on the i5 than the a8 5500, so I thought I could get by a month until getting the gpu, or I could buy it now, I was hoping for the 300 series to come out and lower the price.

Out of all the components
A psu is the last you should short on
It runs all your parts so should be quality
People here will know good ones for your price range
Sorry that i dont

You could always wait for a holiday or a sale for the 260x to go down in price
Id recommend a fx6300 with a 260x (i think thats the best buget gaming build)
Depending on what you need
If you more into applications then gaming you could get a low end professional card that will run autodesk programs well for the same price of the 260x
Just for overall better preformance
