So I'm taking the dive and building my first PC. I'm going to use it mostly for gaming. I was wondering if anyone would be able to take a look at the components I've selected and give me any recommendations/advice that they can. Also please let me know what I'm missing. Thank you so much!

P.S. My price range right now is 1000-1300.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 Plus
Motherboard: Gigabyte Black Edition LGA 1150 Intel Z97
RAM: G-Skill 8GB Dual Channel Kit DDR-3 RipjawsX Series
HDD: Seagate 1TB SATA
SSD: Kingston SSD Now V100 Sata 3.0 32GB
Case: Sentey Gs-6000 Optimus 2 Gaming Case

This is what i would get.

The corsair cx series isnt the most reliable series and i would spend more for 1300$

Where is your GPU?

You can get 16gb of 1866mhz CAS latency 9 RAM

i changed almost the whole thing so ask any questions

The case in the build i made is unnecessary but i personally own it and i would get it if i had this much to spend on a new build. A case will last you multiple gpu and cpu upgrades

You would see better performance if you wouldn't get the ssd now and instead of the r9 390x you bought the gtx 980,you would have 7-15 fps improvement at AAA tittles and lower power consumption.

If I'm only going to be putting my OS on the SSD, do I really need 240 Gb?

Thank you very much for putting so much time into helping me!

Also thank you Ascend. You're saying forget the SSD for my OS now and just spend the money buying better components?

Finally, what other things do I need to buy to put this all together? Things like cables and what not, or will it all be included?

Ok so here is my suggestion:http://pcpartpicker.com/user/AscendLegend/saved/tkXBD3

Since it's your first build i got you an i5 4690(you could get an i7 4790 but it's not worth it since you will be using it mostly for gaming),instead of 4690k since you won't be overclocking(and you shouldn't anyways the performance you gain isn't that significant).Got you the 980 Ti, instead of the r9 390x(Lower Power Consumption/Future Sli) the other guy suggested by cutting from the case, and from the ram(instead of 16 got you 8).Also EVGA's psu will suffice for future sli,it's fully modular(so no extra cables) with 10 years guarantee.Didn't get you an ssd since you can get one in the future, preferred to save it for the gpu, take this one and you will play anything you want on max settings.

16 gb of ram is pretty standard at this price range and i clearly stated that the case is more my preferance and he doesnt need to spend that much

The 4690k performs better at stock clocks than the 4690 and he may want to upgrade in the future

the gtx 980ti is overkill in this price range. it performs 25% better than the 390x but has less vram and is completely enthusiast grade

An ssd is basically standard for builds this pricey today

my build is way more balanced, look at it again.

Firstly, the performance difference between 4690 and 4690k will be minimal to non existant. Now about the 980Ti u say it will be an overkill but since i managed to make it fit in the budget i can not see the problem to actually get that one instead of the 390x(the 6gb vram won't affect his gameplay) since it's better overall, and consumes less allowing him to maybe sli in the future? And anyways since he is gonna use the pc for gaming all we care is about fps and stability, with my build will have without a doubt higher fps and more choices on future upgrades.

And he can add an ssd and 8 gigs of ram in the future they won't affect his framerate.

you may as well go to a 4670k then lower then lower again, the point is your can decrease performance over and over again as well as price until you have reached rock bottom. The 4690k is a good CPU that is highly recommended. Its also only like 15$ more than the 4690

and your build cheaps out on a few things, again its just not as well rounded

My build cheaps out on nothing,i picked a better psu/mobo/gpu that will allow him to upgrade in the future and have the maximum performance at the games he will play, end of story.
