First Time Building PC for Video Editing, Recording, Gaming

As this is my very first time building a pc by myself, im using pcpartpicker.com
I need someone to advise me on my system i picked, to tell me the cons mostly and the pros.
I will be using the pc for new games that needs high graphic settings and long time video editing.

I'm planning to use windows 10 yes, but i dont know which edition yet if anyone would please answer this question as well.

Please let me know if theres any way i can improve this system or if this system is just not viable due to some unknown (to me) incompability. Or some parts are just straight up more compatible with say, my GPU or CPU.

And i would love if the optimization you're going to give me doesnt differ too much in the price range.

Hi,

Your CPU choice is probably a good one, if it was straight up gaming system I would go Intel but if you are doing video editing too then the Ryzen is a good choice. But truthfully you have to evaluate the video editing program used to make the proper selection.

I do believe that your choice of RAM is not good, the 1600X likes fast RAM, I changed it.

I would love a faster ram but i didnt think ryzen would want that much of a difference in the speed. Sadly though most online shop in my country mostly doesnt provide detailed spec of a component. And even to find ddr4 16gb is really hard with mostly being 8gb (2x4gb). But since it seems to really need a faster ram i will try to at least change to 3000 one.

As for the PSU, thanks for the great recommendation. Not sure if i missed anything else other than it being semi-modular instead of the original full modular. It's cheaper with better reviews. Highly appreciated!

Well long story short, i wanted MSI B350 that i have confirmed both crossfire and OC supports.
And found out it's not available where i live at, and the closest thing i've stumbled upon is ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4.

At pcpartpicker.com it says it doesnt support crossfire. But on ASRock website itself, the spec says AMD Quad CrossFireX™. And it does have 2 PCIe 3.0 x16. That means i can plug 2x GPU right?

I just saw theres RX 580 GPU chipset already released around 2-3days ago. It's cheaper and it seems to work better than RX 480 except with higher TDP, which i dont think would be too much of a problem? (please correct me if i'm wrong i will appreciate it).
The question is, would it do better with my choice of cpu AMD Ryzen 5 1600x or would it be literally the same as using RX 480.
Even though i would probably change my choice to RX 580 since its cheaper and better anyway, but i would love some answer to this

Glad to see im on the right track since i changed my GPU and PSU the same as the one you chose.
Though can you recommend any other GPU Manufacturer other than MSI since its not very common just yet in indonesia where i live.
And just for the record im changing my mobo to ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4.

Sorry for bothering you even further, but i finally managed to find a website that sells (the most complete shop(?)) pc components over here in indonesia. And i tried to match my build that you helped me with, with available items over here.

In short, some of the changes are
1. CPU Cooler
2. Memory (Still the same 16GB 2x8GB DDR4-3200 except pricier because thats the cheapest available here)
3. SSD Model from Mushkin to Western Digital (I have no idea what the cache of this SSD is because i can't find any on it's website's tech spec as well)
4. HDD from 2.5" one to 3.5"
5. GPU from MSI to PowerColor because their price here differs around $56 for pretty much the same performance
6. Case Cooler Master MasterBox 5 is not available here, so i have to change to Corsair 270R which is pretty much the same but i still have some questions about it that i can't find for sure yet.
7. PSU Another one from Corsair RMx 550w 80+ Gold, i've checked jonnyguru.com and it's pretty much like the EVGA you chose for me in the rating.

Now from all the changes i have further questions that i obviously tried to look for the answers myself but i can't find.

1. Not really a question but do you have a better suggestion for the CPU Cooler? I'm not really gonna OC anything yet for the first probably 1-2years. But if there's a better one with just slightly different price, that would be great.

4. Still the case, is this case good at all tbh, i saw it being pretty much the same. But for the air conditioning, unlike cooler master masterbox 5, the front side is fully closed. Though if you have another suggestion of case for me i would appreciate it.

Okay, I should have asked you for a local vendor first before we did the build. I prefer to check availability when doing a build. And it is shaping up to be a really nice build.

■ The cooler you chose is fine for the selection available.
■ PCPartPicker is usually pretty good at picking off component interference issues. If there is an issue it will not allow you to select that component. Other than that you just have to look at pictures and browse forums to see if there will be an issue.
■ Never come across a dust filter that wasn't removable but who knows. Based on all the pictures from this article I would say they are removable.

Yeah that was my bad for not being able to do so, im sorry about that.

Now second of all thank you so very much for finding that case, i was really hesitating with the 270R and the unavailability for CM Masterbox 5 really made me rage to the point i didn't even want to check CM List in that website anymore.
I saw it and it looks really great, fitting my choice of GPU, having side panel for cable management, really wide space for CPU Cooler (175mm) which i wont need to worry if i ever choose to install something like NH-D15 in the future for overclocking, it also have a lot of Tool-less installation option such as for SSD and HDD. Oh and it has removable dust filter which actually didnt exist in 270R from review video i saw (except theres no dust filter for sidepanel but this shouldnt be too much of a problem). And i believe it has Traycut out for the Mobo to easily remove heatsink if i need to without removing the whole motherboard.

And no i don't really care about plain looking, (efficiency > prestige to me for now).

Now motherboard, i changed back to MSI B350 from ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 because of the unclear QVL. Or more like i couldn't find the memory of choice there and i saw someone having problem with changing his/her RAM Speed in BIOS without knowing if the Memory is in the QVL or not so i wouldn't take the chance of that happening to me, and have my RAM only runs at 2400Mhz top both wasting money on 3200Mhz and CPU that want a fast ram. And did i mention the said person was having the said problem with the ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 i originally chose.

Except the downside(?) is that MSI brand only have 1x PCI-E x16 3.0 and 1x PCI-E 2.0 when the ASRock have 2x PCI-E x16 3.0 (which i sadly havent found out the difference just yet).

I probably can say safely now the last part i need to work on is the motherboard MSI brand either B350 Tomahawk or B350 PC Mate. From what i saw they literally have the same spec (other than the LED lighting thing). But i can't find anyone actually trying to find difference between them other than on reddit that's blocked in indonesia.

But what do you say with that price difference, around $30-$40 from PC Mate series to the Tomahawk one. (with the PC Mate is the cheaper one).

I personally would go for the Tomahawk, it is a mobo more in line with the other components of the build, especially since you have an overclocking CPU. Chosing a mobo is one of the hardest things to do since the differences are not things that pop out in the specs. You will get better thermal management, hence longer life and more system stability with the better mobo.

Oh i made a mistake, i meant to say :
ASRock have 2slots of PCI-E x16 3.0
whiel
MSI B350 PC Mate and Tomahawk only have 1slot of PCI-E x16 3.0 and 1slot of PCI-E x16 2.0 (which makes 2 slots of PCI-E x16 only both different in 3.0 and 2.0)

And i was hesitant on that because of yeah the PCI-E x16 slots, since i've read things about them being 'backward compatible' or 'theyre not all that much different and in some benchmark PCI-E 2.0 even seems to be better'.

But after further research i suppose it should be fine (?) to ignore the double PCI-E x16 3.0 available in ASRock model.

And yeah last conclusion i'll go back on my decision of choosing MSI B350 Tomahawk. Chances are (like 99%) you know better than me.
