I've heard that pc part picker is a great website to pick parts for a build because incompatible parts simply won't show up if you select a component you want.

However I also heard that some motherboards that are "compatible" won't be until you update the Bios because it's too old for a newer CPU.

I wanted to ask if this motherboard (ASUS TUF Gaming B660M) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09NWC8BZX?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 is compatible with this CPU (Intel core i5 13600k) https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i5-136...mzn1.fos.c3015c4a-46bb-44b9-81a4-dc28e6d374b3

Thanks for the help.

I also forgot to ask about this second choice seeing that I have an ATX case, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VN131MP?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1
I've noticed that some of these motherboards have a 600 and 700 series slot option (such as this one - B660 and B760)

From my understanding when reading the 13600k description it said it supports both 600 and700 slot MB's.
Does a 700 slot MB have any advantage over the 600 slot MB besides future upgrades?

I'm not looking to upgrade and would love to save the money if I can unless the 700 series MB actually lets the chip perform faster.

The Asus board in your first link won't work with that cpu do to the fact it would need a bios update and in order to do that you would need a 12 gen cpu to update the bios before you can use the 13 gen cpu. The Gigabyte board in your second link will work due to the fact it has 'Q-Flash Plus' which allows you to update the bios for 13 gen cpu's without installing the cpu and RAM .. all you need is a USB stick. With that said I wouldn't recommend that board for an unlocked 13 gen cpu due to the fact that boards VRM's weren't made to handle it ... most likely you will suffer thermal throttling.

Here's a Gigabyte board with Q-Flash Plus that has some hefty VRM's and should work fine with that unlocked 13 gen cpu.

Thanks so much for the information, I didn't know about motherboard not supporting bios flashes without a cpu nor did I know about VRM's not supporting certain CPU's.
What is it that you should be looking for in a recommended VRM for motherboard/cpu compatibility? Does the cpu description say the recommended VRM needed? How would one know?

Also i'm still a bit hesitant on microATX or mATX boards since I only ever used a ATX case with ATX boards. Is it more difficult to install?
And just in case, here's another ATX motherboard, would this also do fine despite it being pricier? I heard MSI Tomhawks are quite durable and some people say you can flash the bios with this, although no flash back button (not sure what that means)
(MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK) - https://pcpartpicker.com/product/H7...a1700-motherboard-mag-b660-tomahawk-wifi-ddr4

The only other one I could find that has a flashback button in the description is this one, although i'm not sure if this is mainly for art programs only, due to its higher price tag (ASUS ProArt B660-Creator D4 LGA 1700) https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Lq...tx-lga1700-motherboard-proart-b660-creator-d4

Or maybe should I just go with a intel B760 series motherboard for ATX MB's? For some reason some of them require DDR5 and some do not. Not sure if i'm reading them correctly.
(Something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BRQSWSFQ?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1)

Thanks for the help again.
