Question First Time Using Second-Hand Parts – Is This preowned AMD 3900x CPU Worth Buying

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

In 2025, I wouldn't invest in a Ryzen 3000 series processor. To add, what is the asking price, do you have a motherboard to test the processor and return it if it's found to be dead? What sort of tasks are you intending to tax the processor/your build with? Where are you located?

If I were you, I'd invest in brand new parts as the warranty leaves you with a peace of mind and sound sleep at night. Be on the look out for promotional deals/bundles.

Thank you for your reply. It is about 125usd for local pickup. The seller sent me a video claiming it is working. I have not tested yet.
my current CPU is too old i5-6600k , so I want to buy a second-hand CPU with decent performance that isn’t too expensive

Have you got somewhere like CEX in your country? They buy used kit, test it, sell it and WARRANT it.. so if it’s bad you can get replacement.. not sure about cash refunds though. Also, not an advert for CEX, just suggesting that something like them may be available.

Buying from a store that recycles electronic parts would be much more expensive. I think CPUs are not easy to break and can last for decades. If someone upgrades, buying a second-hand one directly from the user should also be a good option.

I see a 5900x for 260$ on Amazon (new) and it's significantly better than the 3900x. I think it is worth paying a little more and make sure you have a good chip. Even though a used chip works at the moment you buy it, you don't know what the previous user did with it. Maybe they used it extensively and won't last very long.
